The Northeast Washington Interagency Communications Center (NEWICC) is looking for three, non-permanent Initial Attack Dispatchers to join our team. \u00a0The person hired into this role will be responsible for providing timely and effective dispatching of personnel, equipment and aircraft for fire suppression as well as provide administrative support to the fire suppression program (i.e. fire reports, resource orders, record retention, cost tracking, rosters, smoke management, etc.). \u00a0It is important for the incumbent of this position to have a wide variety of communication skills as they will interact with numerous levels of managers, supervisors and employees within the DNR as well as those within other agencies (US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, US Fish and Wildlife, rural fire districts, etc.) and the general public.<\/p>\n<p>It is critical that the person in this position has the confidence and ability to make independent decisions based on emergent situations and maintains their composure and professionalism working in a potentially high stress environment. As a team that works in a fast paced, high-intensity environment during the time of year associated with fire season, this position requires the ability to be flexible and prioritize time and duties; as well as be highly organized with great attention to detail.<\/dd>\n<dt>Duties<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emergency Fire Dispatch and Phone Communications including radio dispatch between field resources, other government agencies and private contractors, monitoring multiple radio frequencies, provide safe and reliable communications for field resources, and dispatching resources to incidents and support in the management and control of incidents.<\/li>\n<li>Process and complete fire reports, focusing on detail and accuracy.<\/li>\n<li>Clerical Support including, answering and fileidng phone calls, scanning, filing, place and fill orders to help support the needs of the center and field staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school graduate or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Competent in the basic use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn new programs.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with effective and professional written and verbal communication, project and task management, record keeping and data analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to work in a high pressure environment independently and as a team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of and ability to explain the Forest Fire Protection Laws\/Rules \u2013 i.e., Violations, Silvicultural Burning\/Permits, Forest Closures\/Suspensions, Fire Protection Regulations, Hazard Abatement.<\/li>\n<li>Trained in IROC (Interagency Resource Ordering and Capability) and WildCAD (Wildland Fire Computer-Aided Dispatch).<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge and ability to utilize the ICS (Incident Command System).<\/li>\n<li>Initial Attack Dispatcher experience.<\/li>\n<li>One year work experience involving public contact or communication such as radio communications, receptionist, switchboard operator, or clerical office work which includes dealing with the public.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Supplemental Information<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nOne of the world&#8217;s most scenic places, Washington State offers breathtaking discoveries for people who love natural beauty and outdoor recreation, from the Pacific Coast shores to the rugged Cascade Mountains to the rolling hills of the Palouse.
