Walk along the stream bank or within streams to count spawning fish and redds. Construct and operate traps to collect adult bull trout. Construct and operate remote PIT tag detection systems. Conduct daytime or nighttime snorkeling counts of fish. Conduct backpack electrofishing and deploy minnow traps. Handle, measure, and tag Bull Trout and other fishes. Use inflatable craft or motorboats to facilitate some sampling events and redd surveys.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>Enter and analyze field data:<\/b> Prepare, and enter fish and habitat survey data. Ensure quality control on data entered by field crews. Provide summaries of fish survey data, evaluate performance of various gear types for sampling fishes, evaluate general habitat conditions of survey sites. Provide specific analyses as requested to district staff, collaborators, or the public. Prepare summary reports.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>Oversee and coordinate the work of field crews:<\/b> Train crews on survey protocol and field procedures. Develop work schedules. Create, review, proof and organize\u00a0data forms collected by field crews. Oversee the completion of tasks to ensure quality control and resolve issues.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\n<b>Working Conditions <\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Requires frequent travel to study sites within three hours of the duty station. Considerable travel in all types of weather.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Requires working outdoors in inclement weather as well as in cold and swift streams. Some daytime and nighttime snorkeling in cold streams is required. Occasional boating (drift boat, pontoon boat, kayak, motorboat or similar craft) is required for accessing and surveying habitats.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 Requires working on a computer entering, managing, and summarizing data and writing sections of reports for extended periods of time. Approximately 10% of work time is spent in the office.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">\u2022 This position requires a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license).
