Exempt<\/p>\n<p>REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:<\/p>\n<p>Reports to: Environmental Supervisor<\/p>\n<p>Supervises the following positions: Not Applicable<\/p>\n<p>DEFINITION: This is a journey-level professional biologist responsible for planning and directing complex biological studies. \u00a0This position will be responsible for monitoring biological resources in compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations and legislation. \u00a0The associate biologist will also prepare technical environmental reports and documents affecting the domestic water, sanitation, irrigation, drainage and stormwater functions of the district.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Essential Functions<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Participates effectively with technical work groups and other meetings with consultants, resource agency groups and science advisory groups.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Conducts biological studies, prepares contract agreements for consultants conducting biological studies and prepares technical environmental reports and documents.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Monitors the district\u2019s biological aquatic weed control program.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Coordinates with regulatory agencies and other federal, state and local agencies as required for providing technical input regarding biological resources.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Analyze Environmental Impact Reports, biological reports and documents and environmental legislation that impacts the district.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Prepares technical support data for board reports, letters, reports, documents and general correspondence to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as district policies.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Coordinates with engineering staff and other district departments providing support as necessary to obtain environmental clearance for district projects and maintenance activities.<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Allied functions related to environmental sciences.<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:<\/p>\n<p>License or Certificates: Valid California Operators license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. \u00a0Department of Motor Vehicles driving record may influence employment or classification.<\/p>\n<p>Education: \u00a0Bachelor of Science in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.<\/p>\n<p>Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. \u00a0A typical way would be to have 3<br \/>\nyears of environmental compliance experience.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Minimum Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Knowledge of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>California Wildlife Biology<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>California Plant Community Biology<\/li>\n<li>California Aquatic Biology<\/li>\n<li>State and Federal Endangered Species Act<\/li>\n<li>California Fish and Game Code<\/li>\n<li>Project management skills<\/li>\n<li>Extensive knowledge of southern California biological communities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Abilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understand and critically review biological resource laws and policies<\/li>\n<li>Prepare concise and clear reports<\/li>\n<li>Effective verbal and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of common computer applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Certificates, Licenses, Registration and Other Requirements<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Drives District vehicle to job sites including over rough terrain.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0May work in extreme weather conditions including heat and rain.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Uses telephone and two-way radio to communicate.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Uses personal computer, keyboard, mouse
