Do you like a fast paced rewarding work environment, if so this job is for you! \u00a0Our seasonal Wildland Fire Dispatcher provides a variety of specialized administrative\/clerical and complex wildland fire dispatch functions that help with overall fire prevention and suppression. This position will challenge you with fast-paced, high-intensity situations that will require you to utilize your multi-tasking aptitude while also providing you with the opportunity to improve processes for a smooth running dispatch center. \u00a0This position will also utilize your excellent verbal and written skills to communicate and network with agency staff from all regions, divisions, and management, as well as other State and Federal agencies, in a collaborative effort to reduce and suppress wildfire.<\/dd>\n<dt>Duties<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><br \/>\nSome of the responsibilities of the wildland fire dispatcher include, but are not limited to the following: wildfire and emergency dispatching, Incident Qualification System (IQS), Resource Order Status System (ROSS), WildCad dispatch CAD system, Weather Information Management System (WIMS), radio and telephone communications, Industrial Fire Precaution Level ratings, fire weather forecast, private and industrial burn permits, regional standby updates, fire reports, resource directory, fire prevention and general region administrative support.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two years clerical\/administrative experience demonstrating increased responsibility.<\/li>\n<li>Two years computer experience with the use of Microsoft Office products.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to function effectively and professionally, both independently and as a team member, while working under high stress conditions for extended periods.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to receive and execute both verbal and written directions during emergency situations.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to effectively utilize various mapping resources.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to accurately document information received verbally over the radio, phone and in person.<\/li>\n<li>Most of the work for this position takes place in an office environment. On occasion, during incidents or training, the work may take place in an incident camp work environment.<\/li>\n<li>Extended overtime is mandatory during initial, extended attack and all risk incident dispatch.<\/li>\n<li>Night shifts will be required during active fire season.<\/li>\n<li>Working conditions require this position to remain calm and effective in giving and receiving communication over the radio and telephone during high stress incidents.<\/li>\n<li>Travel and overnight stay may be required for training. During some training or if the employee is dispatched on a fire assignment, lodging and meals may be provided in a camp, dormitory or tent environment.<\/li>\n<li>Must be 18 years of age at the time of hire.<\/li>\n<li>Must live within 30 minutes of SPS Headquarters in Enumclaw<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One successful season working as NWCG Wildland Fire Fighter 2.<\/li>\n<li>Understands the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.<\/li>\n<li>Experience using radio base stations to communicate.<\/li>\n<li>Experience helping to building a specific successful dispatch office data base for WildCad.<\/li>\n<li>Clearly able to communicate both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers including cooperators, landowners, public, and fire crews.<\/li>\n<li>Employment experience independently and effectively managing time to meet deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>Experience as a Wildland Fire Dispatcher utilizing Incident Response Ordering Capability (IROC), WildCad, Incident Qualification System (IQS), and the Weather Information Management System (WIMS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Supplemental Information<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nOne of the world&#8217;s most scenic places, Washington State offers breathtaking discoveries for people who love natural beauty and outdoor recreation, from the Pacific Coast shores to the rugged Cascade Mountains to the rolling hills of the Palouse.
