Spend your summer checking in on young trees and educating the public in their care.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThis position will support Portland Parks &amp; Recreation Urban Forestry\u2019s tree planting programs, including the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.portland.gov\/trees\/tree-planting\/yard-tree-giveaway\">Yard Tree Giveaway program<\/a>. In summer, work will include monitoring trees to\u00a0assess health, planting, and survival.\u00a0In fall, event preparation for 2021 giveaways will include event organization, registration support, tree delivery, and planting. This position represents the program to the public, works closely with tree recipients, and is responsible for collecting and managing tree data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties will include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Collect tree monitoring data on sites throughout Portland using a mobile app, including tree health assessment, identification, and measurement<\/li>\n<li>Contact people who have received trees from Urban Forestry. Communication will be done by phone, text, and email to coordinate monitoring visits, answer questions, and register participants.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with Yard Tree Giveaway program administration, including logistics, registrations, customer service, volunteer training, and problem solving<\/li>\n<li>Assist with tree loading and delivery, event staging, and tree planting<\/li>\n<li>Manage data and inspection records in Excel and ArcGIS<\/li>\n<li>Provide support for urban forestry programs, including permit data entry, field data collection, or other duties as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This position will work regularly outdoors in all weather conditions; requires long periods of driving; standing and walking over uneven terrain; and lifting and carrying of items up to 30 pounds. Our urban forest consists of over 220,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and innumerable private property trees.
