The department consists of three divisions: \u00a0Parks and Recreation, Administrative Services and Resource Stewardship. Our mission is to be a leader in creating livable communities by providing opportunities for people to connect with nature, learn about sustainable practices, live healthy lifestyles, and enjoy vibrant community spaces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.co.pierce.wa.us\/index.aspx?NID=114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn more about the Pierce County Parks Department<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Information received from the background check is reviewed case-by-case and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>POSITION SUMMARY:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe student will report directly to a Recreation Supervisor. He\/she will gain knowledge in planning, coordinating and administering activities in all components of the department. Specific activities will be determined depending on the internship start dates. Examples may include: youth sports, day camps, environmental education, leisure classes, special events, volunteer service, inclusive programs and camps, fun runs\/walks, facility booking\/scheduling, developing partnerships, and the basics of sponsorships\/fundraising. The intern&#8217;s culminating summer project will be the planning and execution of the Come Fly a Kite Days and having key roles in the events hosted at Chambers Creek Regional Park. In addition, the student will learn the day to day operations of the Parks Department.
