opportunities\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>to<strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>assist with survey efforts for a variety of different species including greater sage-grouse, pygmy rabbits, ground squirrels, northern leopard frogs, common loons, and other waterfowl species.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>With your experience,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0you will\u00a0accurately and legibly record and organize data and other information into appropriate databases.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The optimal candidates\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>take pride in their work, are enthusiastic and have a positive attitude even in the face of challenging field conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>We are seeking candidates<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with demonstrated skills representing WDFW values of professionalism, accountability, empathy, integrity, and respect.<\/p>\n<p>Duties<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Our Eastern Washington Diversity Species Technicians,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Follow established survey protocols to locate previously unknown greater sage-grouse leks.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct surveys for Washington ground squirrels while listening for high pitched calls and looking for sign.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the pygmy rabbit team to perform walking transect surveys for pygmy rabbit burrows and sign.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with recovery and reintroduction efforts for federally endangered pygmy rabbit, including performing live trapping at burrows and other capture methods as well as transport.<\/li>\n<li>Perform northern leopard frog egg mass and metamorphosis counts.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with recovery and reintroduction efforts for state endangered northern leopard frog, including capture and transport.<\/li>\n<li>Perform common loon nesting surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with outreach for common loon conservation.<\/li>\n<li>Locate, establish, and maintain waterfowl trapping sites.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor waterfowl trapping sites and maintain banding records.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize handheld GPS to navigate to survey locations.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately compile and enter collected data.<\/li>\n<li>Properly maintain field equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Field work requires working in remote locations, hiking long distances on\/off trail, along steep, rocky slopes, difficult terrain\/surfaces during all weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Technicians will be expected to work in shallow wetland conditions involving frequent wading while carrying bait and trapping materials<\/li>\n<li>Field work also requires safely driving on unimproved roads using 4&#215;4 vehicles and transporting equipment weighing up to 40 pounds over uneven terrain.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule: \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Typically, 40 hours per week, Monday \u2013 Friday, although some weekends will be required during waterfowl banding season (July-August).<\/li>\n<li>Length of field day will vary with task and location, but work will often begin before dawn.<\/li>\n<li>Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours and adjustment of work schedules.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements: \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Travel from the duty stations to work locations in other districts.<\/li>\n<li>May require overnight stays or short periods in remote field stations, hotels, bunkhouses, or travel trailers, up to 20% of time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>GPS, remote cameras, binoculars, spotting scope, digital camera and 4&#215;4 Trucks.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li>Much of the work will be conducted on private lands.<\/li>\n<li>Technicians will represent WDFW and act respectfully and strive for positive interactions with landowners and any public encountered.<\/li>\n<li>Public engagement and outreach to water recreators during common loon surveys.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED, including one (1) year of high school science.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>AND\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>OR<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Two (2) years of field experience working on wildlife research or conservation projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>OR\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A Bachelor\u2019s Degree in natural sciences (wildlife, ecology, biology, conservation, or a related field) may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Certifications\/Licenses:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid Driver\u2019s
