Duty location: Glenwood, WA \/ Trout Lake, WA<\/p>\n
Work environment: Extensive outdoor work with exposure to remote work locations, inclement weather and extensive physical work duties. Some office work required.<\/p>\n
Salary and benefits: $18-20.50 \/ hr DOE. + $350 stipend for work boots\/saw pants\/ etc.<\/p>\n

Mt. Adams Resource Stewards (MARS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2004, is accepting applications for its Stewardship Crew. MARS works to support the ecological and economic health of communities in the Mt. Adams region through the management of the Mt. Adams Community Forest and in partnership with various land management agencies and landowners.<\/p>\n
Applicants interested in a position on the crew should feel called to a 3 season outdoor labor job and be motivated by opportunities to gain or hone skills in a variety of forestry related tasks while building connections to the Mt. Adams area.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Position Description and Responsibilities:<\/strong> Stewardship crew members will work with public land management agencies, nonprofits and private landowners on a wide variety of field-based projects including some or all of the following: fuels management, prescribed fire, basic forestry technical support, habitat restoration, and other field based labor activities (i.e. thinning, tree planting, fence building). Where applicable, program participants will engage in trainings that focus on enhancing technical project skills and field-based knowledge.<\/p>\n Crew members may receive some or all of the following trainings and certifications depending on their crew\u2019s primary work focus: First Aid, CPR, Chainsaw Operation, Wildland Firefighter Type II, forestry techniques specific to pre-commercial thinning, training in conducting Stand exams.<\/p>\n Members will be part of a 4-6 person crew supervised by the Stewardship Project Lead, who in turn reports to the Executive Director. Staff are responsible for the safe completion of assigned work projects in a timely and professional manner to predetermined specifications under the direction of the Project Leader. Work will consist of skilled manual labor and technical monitoring including the following:<\/p>\n \u25cf Operate hand tools and gas powered equipment (i.e. chainsaw, wood chipper, etc.)<\/p>\n \u25cf Fulfill training obligations in order to meet project demands<\/p>\n \u25cf Perform demanding physical work in a variety of weather conditions<\/p>\n \u25cf Hike for extended distances while carrying loads up to 50 lbs or more<\/p>\n \u25cf Assist in management of equipment<\/p>\n \u25cf Work as a member of a team, both within the MARS organization and with partners<\/p>\n * Position duties are subject to be altered based on changing program and project priorities. Positions are contingent on funding and satisfactory performance. The 2021 season work schedule will most likely run from March\/April through November, with possibility for extended season based on crewmember availability, weather, and projects.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u25cf Must be at least 18 years of age<\/p>\n \u25cf Education- Minimum of a high school degree or GED<\/p>\n \u25cf Physically fit and able to work long days in adverse conditions; ability to complete an arduous Work Capacity Test. The arduous level requires individuals to walk 3 miles in 45 minutes while carrying a 45 pound pack on level terrain.<\/p>\n \u25cf Competent at preparing self for a full day of physical work in a remote location<\/p>\n \u25cf Ability to work as a team member<\/p>\n \u25cf Ability to adapt and adjust to changing work conditions and\/or priorities<\/p>\n \u25cf Strong work ethic that reflects a passion for environmental stewardship and community engagement<\/p>\n \u25cf Valid driver\u2019s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI\u2019s)<\/p>\n * Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u25cf Demonstrated experience with environmental work such as trail work, restoration work, wildfire suppression, etc.<\/p>\n \u25cf Participation in outdoor activities, work, lifestyle and\/or pursuits<\/p>\n \u25cf Training and experience in the safe operation of chainsaws strongly desired<\/p>\n \u25cf Coursework in natural resource related field and\/or recreation a plus<\/p>\n \u25cf Prior experience in environmental projects, outdoor recreation, resource management and familiarity using hand tools is desirable<\/p>\n * Mt.
