We are seeking one (1) highly motivated and experienced Fish Hatchery Technician to work alongside a diverse team promoting the conservation of Washington State\u2019s salmonid population. \u00a0This opportunity is in Lewis County.<\/p>\n

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) currently operates 87 hatchery facilities, the majority dedicated to producing salmon and\/or steelhead. There are also 51 tribal hatcheries and 12 federal hatcheries that produce salmon and steelhead for harvest. \u00a0 Hatcheries have operated in Washington State for more than a century, beginning with a facility on the Kalama River in 1895.<\/p>\n

We are seeking applicants with excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and the use of sound judgement.Duties<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:\u00a0<\/strong>
\nAssist in feeding juvenile salmonids<\/strong>
\nTasks include:\u00a0<\/strong>
\nWeighing feed, physically or mechanically distributing feed to rearing containers.<\/p>\n

Washes and cleans ponds, water intakes, tanks, troughs, and egg trays<\/strong>
\nTasks include:\u00a0<\/strong>
\nOperating high pressure pumps, and manual cleaning of rearing containers with brooms or brushes.<\/p>\n

Assists in seining ponds, spawning, and surplus activities<\/strong>
\nTasks include: \u00a0<\/strong>
\nOperating a seine net, weighing screen buckets of fish and lifting nets or buckets out of the pond repetitively.<\/p>\n

Assists in taking and recording data<\/strong>
\nTasks include:\u00a0<\/strong>
\nRecord data for mortality, sampling, etc.<\/p>\n

Performs equipment, facilities, and ground care maintenance<\/strong>
\nTasks include:\u00a0<\/strong>
\nOperating hand and power tools to facilitate hatchery maintenance.<\/p>\n

Occasionally drives truck to deliver supplies and equipment<\/strong>
\nTasks include:<\/strong>
\nDriving a standard or flatbed pickup to deliver hatchery supplies.<\/p>\n

WORKING CONDITIONS:\u00a0<\/strong>All applicants considering applying for this position should understand and consider that standby is a requirement for all positions in the Fish Hatchery Specialist series. \u00a0Management may determine it is necessary to assign it in order to accomplish the goals and objectives of the agency and as necessary to protect the resources of the agency and if assigned, it will be a requirement of the position.<\/p>\n
