If you are a passionate team player who wants to have an outsized impact on a diverse and dynamic team, and at the same time have fun! we\u2019d love to hear from you!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Duties<\/p>\n<p>This position is to conduct stream surveys, collect hatchery and wild steelhead &amp; lamprey spawning survey data (redd accounting and carcass sampling, in stream sampling) in South Puget Sound watersheds and Hood Canal. \u00a0These biological data sets help determine hatchery vs wild salmonid escapements, run reconstruction, and forecasts used in fisheries management for both non-tribal sport and tribal commercial gillnet fisheries. \u00a0Stream survey collection includes live\/dead counts.<\/p>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong>Enumerate and monitor hatchery and wild salmon\/steelhead redds plus live\/dead fish counts with \u201cIndex\u201d reaches surveyed every 7-14 days.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fish identification.<\/li>\n<li>New redds are numbered with flagging.<\/li>\n<li>Data is recorded onto field cards<\/li>\n<li>Data cards are summarized.<\/li>\n<li>Surveys conducted by foot, raft, pontoon boat, and\/or jet sled during all weather conditions and difficult terrain.<\/li>\n<li>Biological data (scales, fin marks, coded wire tag, otoliths, DNA) collected on dead fish.<\/li>\n<li>Survey includes enumarating Pacific and Brook lamprey visible redds and live\/dead counts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Driving to and from surveyed reaches on both highway and off conditions.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Includes gaining access onto private properties, map reading, GPS coordinates, radio operations, vehicle maintenance and repairs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Enumerate and monitor salmon\/steelhead redds and live\/dead fish count with \u201cSupplemental\u201d type surveys during peak spawning. Visible redds and fish counts are recorded on field cards.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data is error checked and summarized.<\/li>\n<li>Surveys conducted by foot, raft, pontoon boat, and\/or jet sled.<\/li>\n<li>Timing of surveys based upon \u201cIndex\u201d type vis\/cum relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Biological data (scales, fin marks, coded wire tag) collected on dead fish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Survey schedule planning<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tracking weather and stream flows, data organization and error checking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other duties as assigned<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Including gear\/equipment\/vehicle maintenance and repairs, sampling lowland trout lakes.<\/li>\n<li>Mandatory employee and safety training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Usually surveys are done alone or at times with other technicians or biologist in a wide variety of terrain and stream substrate conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Fieldwork is often done in inclement weather within varying stream flow and visibility conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Fieldwork can be strenuous while walking in or along streams with slick boulders, crawling over logjams, wading across riffles with moderate \u2013 fast current or maneuvering watercraft listed above.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to lift and maneuver equipment upwards to or greater than 40 pounds.<\/li>\n<li>Maintains accurate field notes.<\/li>\n<li>Follow instructions and established protocols and procedures to conduct salmonid\/lamprey redd counts.<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to work well in teams of at least 2 survey staff.<\/li>\n<li>Must work well independently in both office and field environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Schedule: \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work hours are generally 40 hours per week.<\/li>\n<li>Workdays and hours are determined by weather, stream flows and visibility, and degree of spawning activity.<\/li>\n<li>A flexible hourly and daily work schedule is therefore needed to perform the assigned tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Weekends and holidays are included as potential workdays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tools and Equipment:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operate a raft, drift boat, pontoon boats, or jet-pump equipped sled in a wide range of stream flows, stream viewing conditions, and obstacles.<\/li>\n<li>General raingear, waders, wading shoes, raincoat, WDFW hat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br including one year of high school science AND two years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>OR\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED including one year of school science AND two years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or salmonids.<\/li>\n<li>Identifies, interprets, and monitor salmonid\/lamprey spawning activity by species.<\/li>\n<li>Safe operations of rafts and boats in moving water a definite plus.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to fill out field data forms clearly and concisely.<\/li>\n<li>Basic computer data entry skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to follow oral and written instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Strong
