We take on the gravest current threats to human health and survival &#8211; nuclear weapons, economic inequity, and a climate crisis driven by dependence on fossil fuels. Through its three issue-based programs, WPSR leverages the credible and trusted voice of healthcare professionals to educate the public, influence decision-makers, and promote public policies that support our mission &#8212; including local, state-level, and national action to address the climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_17_2_1_1614207243038_181\" class=\"\">The mission of WPSR\u2019s Nuclear Weapons Abolition program is to reduce and ultimately eliminate nuclear weapons and the threat they pose to human health and survival. We do this primarily through building a grassroots, coalition-based anti-nuclear movement that can effectively influence Members of Congress on our nuclear weapons policy priorities. We engage health professionals in this work and play a key leadership role in a broad-based coalition across Washington State that mobilizes and organizes local communities to take action on the gravest threats to human health, including nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Nuclear Weapons Abolition Program Organizer represents WPSR in leading a nationally renowned movement in Washington State to promote the abolition of nuclear weapons, sane nuclear policy, and nuclear justice. As a longstanding leader and member of effective anti-nuclear coalitions, WPSR plays a unique role in bringing the credibility of health professionals to anti-nuclear advocacy. The Nuclear Weapons Abolition Program Organizer engages WPSR members, coalition partners, and others in education, lobbying, and grassroots advocacy to protect human health and survival from the existential threat posed by nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">We\u2019re seeking applicants who are ready to commit their time, talent, and passion for advocating, organizing, and mobilizing health professionals to be advocates in the fight against nuclear weapons, and for justice for those who have suffered from the legacy of weapons production, testing, and usage. We look for smarts, organizing experience, and an eagerness to learn. We value leadership experience of all kinds, especially organizing, grassroots outreach, and building campus groups. Candidates must have excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to oversee significant projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Due to the conditions of COVID-19, this position will be remote until conditions allow otherwise at which point the position must be based in the Seattle, WA area. This role reports to the WPSR Executive Director.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Nuclear Weapons Abolition Program Organizer is responsible for leading and supporting all aspects of WPSR\u2019s Nuclear Weapons program. This position reports to the Executive Director. Duties include:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Program Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Serve as co-chair of the Nuclear Weapons Abolition Task Force. Guide and support the activities of Task Force members, program interns, and volunteers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Develop and regularly update tools for tracking progress made on grant deliverables, report on existing\u00a0 grants and participate in applying for grant renewals and new grants<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Manage interns who help carry out the core program priorities of WPSR\u2019s nuclear weapons abolition program<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Collaborate across WPSR programs<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Organizing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Engage and organize health care professionals to advocate on behalf of nuclear abolition, nuclear justice, and sane nuclear policy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Research, write, and disseminate information and data about the health and other threats posed by nuclear weapons<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Collaborate with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.psr.org\/\"> PSR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psr.org\/\">National, <\/a>other PSR chapters, and national-level anti-nuclear partners and coalitions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Communicate and maintain relationships with WA elected officials and their staff to advocate for WPSR\u2019s nuclear policy priorities<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Drive program communications including writing content for the media, web and social media, educational materials, and member communications<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Support frontline community efforts to fight for nuclear justice across WA State through community education and direct advocacy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Coalition Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Coordinate, support, and grow the statewide<a href=\"https:\/\/wanwcoalition.org\/\"> WANW (Washington Against Nuclear Weapons) coalition<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Events &amp; Advocacy Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Coordinate &amp; produce WPSR and WANW educational, training, advocacy, and other internal and public-facing events<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Facilitate advocacy opportunities for WPSR and WANW coalition members<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Other Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Collaborate in cross-program collaboration and development of organization-wide tools, systems, and resources<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Support WPSR\u2019s organizational fundraising &amp; development efforts<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Assisting with organization-wide events, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpsr.org\/gala\">WPSR\u2019s annual major fundraising event<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Passionate about peace and the power of grassroots activism to win policy change<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">At least 2 years of community organizing experience (examples could include a political campaign, campus organizing, etc.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Undergraduate degree in relevant subject area<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Demonstrated experience working with, supporting, and recruiting volunteers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Strong communications, facilitation, and writing skills<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Familiarity with legislative and political processes<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Team-player, excited about working collaboratively, and in coalition with others and being a part of effective and diverse groups<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Works well independently and exhibits initiative, resourcefulness, and drive<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Strong listening and relationship-building values and skills<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Prioritizes a lens of racial and gender equity, and confident in communicating about diversity, equity, and inclusion issues<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Familiarity with nuclear weapons, nonproliferation, diplomacy, peace studies, and\/or defense policy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Demonstrated experience managing organizational communications and social media (ex. sending email action alerts, managing Facebook accounts, press releases, etc.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Grant writing and experience liaising with foundations and individual donors<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Experience with implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs or plans<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Experience representing an organization in a coalition advocating for policy change<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Skilled in managing volunteer teams<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Eager and willing to support the success of co-workers, colleagues, and the overall mission and needs of the organization<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\">Master\u2019s or other advanced degree in a relevant subject area<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Compensation: <\/strong>The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $50,000 &#8211; $52,000, depending on qualifications and relevant experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Benefits: <\/strong>WPSR offers all full-time employees a fully paid health care plan, and stipends for use of public transportation and personal technology. Employees have access to a pre-tax 401(k) withholding option as well as flexible health spending and dependent accounts. Paid leave starts at 2 weeks per year, and increases to 3 weeks after 2 years of continuous service, and to 4 weeks after 4 years.
