Exception: For a person who has completed a period of obligated service in a uniformed service of more than four years, the degree may be awarded by an institution of higher education not more than four years before the date of the appointment of the applicant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>**NOTE: Management will consider applications from students who expect to complete qualifying education no later than 30 June 2021. (You must upload current transcripts with your application and degrees must be conferred no later than 30 June 2021). ***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to qualify, you must meet the education and\/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).<\/p>\n<p>You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant education and experience.<\/p>\n<p>Additional information about transcripts is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acpol2.army.mil\/chra_dodea\/Transcripts.pdf\">in this document<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Basic Requirement for Forester:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Degree: forestry; or a related subject-matter field that included a total of at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of course work were in forestry. The curriculum must have been sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following areas:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Management of Renewable Resources &#8212; study of the science and art of managing renewable resources to attain desired results. Examples of creditable courses in this area include silviculture, forest management operations, timber management, wildland fire science or fire management, utilization of forest resources, forest regulation, recreational land management, watershed management, and wildlife or range habitat management.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Forest Biology &#8212; study of the classification, distribution, characteristics, and identification of forest vegetation, and the interrelationships of living organisms to the forest environment. Examples of creditable courses in this area include dendrology, forest ecology, silvics, forest genetics, wood structure and properties, forest soils, forest entomology, and forest pathology.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory &#8212; sampling, inventory, measurement, and analysis techniques as applied to a variety of forest resources. Examples of creditable courses include forest biometrics, forest mensuration, forest valuation, statistical analysis of forest resource data, renewable natural resources inventories and analysis, and photogrammetry or remote sensing.<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in forestry, or at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours were in forestry. The requirements for diversification of the 24 semester hours in forestry are the same as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Specialized Experience<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the GS-05:<\/strong>\u00a0One year or more of specialized experience which includes field work pertaining to forest biology, management of natural resources, forest resource measurements and inventory. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade\/level position in the federal service (GS-04).<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the GS-07:<\/strong>\u00a0One year of specialized experience which includes performing technical and administrative work performing logging field work and preparing timber sale contracts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade\/level position in the federal service (GS-05).<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Management of Renewable Resources, Forest Biology, Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory.<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above. Superior Academic Achievement is based on:<br \/>\n(1) Class Standing &#8211; Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses;<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>(2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) &#8211; Applicants must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (&#8220;B&#8221; or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (&#8220;B+&#8221; or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.;<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>(3) Honor Society Membership &#8211; Applicants may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https:\/\/www.achsnatl.org\/).<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Education<\/h3>\n<p>FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
