DEQ\u2019s 3 regions &#8211; Northwest, Western, and Eastern &#8211; issue permits for air, land, and water quality; inspect regulated entities for compliance; enforce permit requirements and administrative rules; investigate complaints; respond to spills and other emergency incidents with environmental impacts; work directly with communities, other governmental entities, industries, and the public; and provide technical assistance to regulated entities and the public. You will work closely with DEQ\u2019s program manager for Section 401 water quality certification regarding Eastern Region 401 projects. You will serve as a member of the Water Quality Program Management Team. You will develop program goals and objectives and monitor progress; identify, prioritize, and schedule work; select and supervise technical staff; and resolve difficult technical or administrative problems. You will assist in the development and implementation of statewide rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines for the water quality program, as well as budget management for the water quality program. You will track and ensure timeliness and responsiveness to the public and regulated community on key issues, and provide direction and guidance in emergencies. This position requires travel on official State business throughout Eastern Region and Oregon for meetings, conferences, and public hearings that may include overnight stays. Meetings and public hearings are often held in the evenings requiring occasional irregular work hours. Work may be required during inclement weather and may include possible exposure to pollutants or chemicals during site inspections with staff.
