If you are a passionate team player who wants to have an outsized impact on a diverse and dynamic team, and at the same time have fun! we\u2019d love to hear from you!<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The Scientific Technician 2 plays a key role in pursuit of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife&#8217;s mission to conserve,\u00a0enhance,\u00a0and restore native fish populations in Washington State.\u00a0The Scientific Technician 2 position provides technical assistance to project lead biologists Lake Roosevelt Northern Pike Suppression Project. The Project is a cooperative effort by regional co-managers to suppress Northern Pike populations in Lake Roosevelt and region other regional waters.\u00a0The Scientific Technician 2 also provides assistance for Fish Program activities associated with Fish Management in Region 1.\u00a0Funding for this position is supported by WDFW Fish Management general funds associated with the Region 1 Lake Roosevelt Northern Pike Suppression Project. The activities of the Scientific Technician 2 are directly related to the conservation of native fish populations in eastern Washington.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Duties<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong>Primary duties may include but are not limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Conducts field surveys<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conducts field surveys associated with Northern Pike suppression activities in Region 1.<\/li>\n<li>Collects and records biological data on fish including species identification,\u00a0total length,\u00a0fork length,\u00a0and weight.<\/li>\n<li>Collects biological samples\u00a0including ageing structures,\u00a0genetic tissue and diet samples.<\/li>\n<li>Checks fish for existing tags\/marks and uses a variety of techniques to mark\u00a0fish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Maintain field equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks\u00a0include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintains\u00a0and repairs fish\u00a0sampling\u00a0equipment including but not limited\u00a0to\u00a0gill\u00a0nets,\u00a0dip nets, anchors,\u00a0ropes,\u00a0electronic\u00a0balances,\u00a0PIT\u00a0tag\u00a0readers, GPS units,\u00a0and personal protective equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Keeps gear\u00a0organized and in\u00a0good\u00a0working\u00a0condition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Compiles and enters data<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks\u00a0include<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assists lead biologists and project technician staff to maintain original field data in an organized manner that is accessible by biological staff.<\/li>\n<li>Compiles field data and enters data\u00a0into computer using Microsoft Office programs (EXCEL,\u00a0Word) and conducts quality assurance\/quality control to ensure data\u00a0is\u00a0free of errors and ready for analysis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other duties as assigned<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reviews and complies with WDFW policies and procedures as required for employment.<\/li>\n<li>Assists\u00a0with\u00a0activities associated with Fish Management in Region 1 as directed.\u00a0Prioritizes safety at all times.<\/li>\n<li>Works with staff to complete tasks in an efficient\u00a0and\u00a0timely manner.<\/li>\n<li>Promotes\u00a0a\u00a0positive and respectful work environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Working setting, including hazards:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work is primarily conducted in field and warehouse settings and involves\u00a0many hours of vehicle travel.
