These escapement estimates are required to fulfill co-manager obligations agreed to in the North of Falcon process and in state\/tribal management plans. This position is therefore essential to the agency\u2019s Mission of sound stewardship of fish resources.<u>\u00a0This is a year-round, 12 months position.\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Primary duties may include but are not limited to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spawning ground surveyor, Stock Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Team lead for the collection and documentation of salmon spawning survey data from District 13 rivers and streams.\u00a0<u>Identifying and counting live and dead salmon by species<\/u>.\u00a0<u>Identify and count, mark and waypoint salmon redds by species<\/u>. Uses discretion in selecting and modifying sampling protocol based on weather and stream conditions.\u00a0<u>Conducts surveys on foot and using rafts or boats<\/u>.\u00a0<u>Performs hook and line and snorkel surveys<\/u>\u00a0to quantify salmonid populations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biological sampling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Collect and document biological samples from salmon and steelhead throughout the watersheds including\u00a0<u>taking DNA, otolith and scale sampling for age determination, and sampling for marks and tags<\/u>\u00a0for hatchery\/natural spawner origin determination. Records sampling results for laboratory analysis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Data management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assists with data entry and reporting for the spawning ground survey database (SGS), biological sampling database, and redd mapping database.\u00a0<u>Keys data into computer software files<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Creel Surveying<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Perform angler catch surveys<\/u>\u00a0(creels) at fishing access sites in the basin. Interact with the public in a safe and respectful manner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Access and Equipment maintenance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assists with maintenance and preparation of index reach access trails and vehicle staging areas. \u00a0<u>Employs hand tools to trim vegetation<\/u>.\u00a0<u>Communicates with survey index landowners<\/u>\u00a0(records landowner new contact information). Maintains and services equipment including trucks, boats and trailers, rafts, exposure gear, and field sampling kits including implements and datasheets, scanners\/detectors and GPS units.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other duties as assigned<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Will be expected to periodically perform snorkel surveys in area rivers and streams in order document salmonid use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Working setting, including hazards:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Primarily field work in rivers and streams walking up to 10 miles in rugged terrain in and out of the water, floating in rafts or boats, and snorkeling in variable flow conditions and weather.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Schedule: \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday through Friday, eight (8) hours per day, with occasional weekend hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Agency provided vehicles (trucks, boats), exposure apparel (waders\/boots, raincoat, snorkeling gear, sunglasses, hat, gloves), backpack, pike staff, sampling implements and instruments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>No housing is available for this position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Travel Requirements:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>From your duty station using agency vehicles to drive to survey index areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>License:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A valid unrestricted driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n<li>Documented snorkel survey experience and\/or certification.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Communication with private landowners and the general public.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Union &#8211; WAFWP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This position is in the bargaining unit represented by the Washington Association of Fish &amp; Wildlife Professionals and is subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish &amp; Wildlife, and the Washington Association of Fish &amp; Wildlife Professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED and at least one year of high school science.
