The team may be quick to tell you that there is no such thing as a \u201croutine\u201d day of work as a park ranger, but if you have a variety of maintenance, construction, communication, leadership, and visitor services skills, you\u2019ll be prepared for any day on the job!<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>What is a Seasonal Park Ranger 1?<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">OPRD recruits for <b>Seasonal Park Ranger 1 <\/b>positions each year. These positions generally work during our busiest time of the year, typically from April through September. However, each park is unique and the duration of seasonal positions varies slightly from park to park.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>What you will do:<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">As a Seasonal Park Ranger 1, you&#8217;ll be on the front lines of visitor services, park operations, and maintenance. You\u2019ll perform:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><u>Visitor Services &amp; Park Safety and Rule Enforcement<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use online reservation system to register and process campsite reservations<\/li>\n<li>Accept and process payments for park services<\/li>\n<li>Provide information about local attractions and Oregon Parks, park rules and regulations to visitors<\/li>\n<li>Patrol park areas and facilities, checking for misuse, undesirable activities and hazardous situations, and take appropriate action<\/li>\n<li>Inspect park grounds, buildings, facilities and equipment for safety hazards and possible violations, and take appropriate action<\/li>\n<li>Maintain vehicles, work sites, buildings, maintenance shops, yards and storage areas in clean, safe condition<\/li>\n<li>Explain park rules and regulations to park visitors and seek voluntary visitor compliance with park area rules and regulations; issue verbal and written warnings as necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><u>Landscape and Custodial Maintenance<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Planting vegetation; mowing lawns and irrigating plants and lawns<\/li>\n<li>Maintain irrigation systems and equipment including pumps, timers, pipes and wires and valves<\/li>\n<li>Prune trees and shrubs using manual and power tools, as well as apply fertilizers and pesticides<\/li>\n<li>Clean park facilities including restrooms, showers, maintenance shops, and interpretive centers etc.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure supplies are stocked in restrooms, collect garbage and recycling, clean fireplaces etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><u>Building &amp; Facility Maintenance and Construction<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain and repair plumbing systems (unclogging toilets, repairing sinks, toilets, pipes etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Maintain, repair and construct buildings or structures requiring basic carpentry skills, painting, and the use of hand and power tools<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and repair electrical systems (replace fuses, reset circuit breakers etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Construct, maintain and restore hiking trails, footbridges, footpaths, parking areas, using hand and power tools<\/li>\n<li>Construct, maintain and repair park signs, water fountains, tables, fireplaces, wastewater disposals, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><u>Additional Duties Include<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Utility System Maintenance and Construction<\/li>\n<li>Resource conservation and interpretation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>What we are looking for (Desired Attributes): <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Skill in performing basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and groundskeeping tasks<\/li>\n<li>Skill in &#8220;verbal judo&#8221; or similar tactical communications method<\/li>\n<li>Experience in park resource and facility operations and maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Skill in evaluating situations, applying rules and guidelines, determining and carrying out appropriate courses of action to achieve desired results<\/li>\n<li>Skill in diagnosing maintenance and operation problems, breakdowns and disruptions; and in initiating and carrying out solutions<\/li>\n<li>Experience providing inclusive customer service while working with the public or in a public setting<\/li>\n<li>Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and positive attitude<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>Minimum Qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two years of <b>visitor services experience<\/b> (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) <b>AND\/OR<\/b> <b>maintenance experience<\/b> (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)<\/li>\n<li><b>OR<\/b>\u200b an <b>Associate\u2019s degree <\/b>or higher in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies <b>and<\/b> 6 months of <b>visitor services experience<\/b> (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) <b>AND\/OR<\/b> <b>maintenance experience<\/b> (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>Special Requirements:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have a criminal history check and driving record check that meets OPRD criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment<\/li>\n<li>Posses a valid driver\u2019s license at time of hire and throughout employment<\/li>\n<li>Must <span class=\"WKS2\">wear\u00a0OPRD\u00a0supplied<\/span> uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty<\/li>\n<li>Obtain and maintain one or more of the following after appointment:\n<ul>\n<li>First Aid\/CPR Certification<\/li>\n<li>Enforcement Officer Status<\/li>\n<li>Pesticide Applicator\u2019s License<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><b>Application Instructions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>External Applicants:<\/i><\/b> Click on the \u201cApply\u201d link and submit your application.
