Perform fish culture duties to meet production goals and maintain equipment, grounds and buildings.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n To learn more about the department and the work we do, view the following video at https:\/\/myodfw.com\/about<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Initial interviews are anticipated to be held via phone, video or virtual interview due to the current situation related to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).<\/b><\/p>\n What you will do:<\/b><\/u><\/p>\n \u2022 Care for fish and perform grounds and equipment maintenance and other related duties. Pond, feed, grade, and collect eggs from wild and hatchery fish; shock, pick, and enumerate eggs; regulate water supplies; remove mortality; and recognize and treat fish diseases. Record and maintain information on amount and type of feed received and fed, water quality, fish mortalities, and liberations and maintain gas, oil, and mileage records. Weigh, count, and load fish and eggs for transfer and liberation.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Maintain, construct, and perform minor repairs to ponds and walkways, fish feeders, egg trays, and screens. Maintain and repair hatchery buildings and residences, fish pumps, lawn mowers, power tools, roads, and trails.<\/p>\n \u2022 Maintain lawns, shrubs, and trees.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Meet the public, maintain public relations, answer questions, and conduct hatchery tours.<\/p>\n \u2022 Fish Liberations: Prepare liberation trucks including pre-trip inspection, load with water, making necessary adjustments to equipment. Set up equipment necessary to load fish from ponds to truck. Operate truck to liberate fish into streams and lakes.\u00a0Must be able to carry up to 25 lbs. Of live fish over uneven ground, keeping fish alive.<\/p>\n The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required.<\/p>\n \nWorking Conditions <\/b><\/p>\n \u2022 Work outdoors, at times during inclement weather.<\/p>\n \u2022 Work in or near cold, deep or fast moving water for extended periods of time.<\/p>\n \u2022 Requires lifting up to 50 pound sacks of feed, cartons of drugs, and other heavy materials and equipment.<\/p>\n \u2022 Operate trucks, tractors and other equipment<\/p>\n \u2022 Handle chemicals used for treatment of fish or disinfecting of equipment for disease control purposes. Work with paint, vehicle fuel, lubricants and solvents during routine maintenance duties. Required to climb ladders.<\/p>\n \u2022 Must display a good sense of diplomacy when dealing with the public.<\/p>\n \u2022 Must make trips off station, sometimes overnight, for liberations, spawning, meetings and training.<\/p>\n \u2022 Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours. Work weekends on a rotational basis and may have to respond to emergency situations while working alone.<\/p>\n \u2022 Both positions require the possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL), tanker endorsement, and applicants must pass the air brake knowledge and skill test. If the selected applicant does not possess a CDL, s\/he is required to obtain this license within six months of hire and must retain it as a condition of continued employment in this position. The department does not <\/b>pay the cost for the CDL or for physicals (Employee\u2019s PEBB medical insurance would cover the physical exam) required to hold a CDL.\u00a0Pursuant to the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and Federal Highway Administration regulations, candidates must successfully pass an alcohol\/controlled substance test before being hired into this position. Additionally, employees required to hold a CDL will be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up alcohol\/controlled substance testing as a condition of employment.<\/p>\n \u2022 One position has housing provided. The employee in this position is required to live on station as a condition of employment and work on an on-call basis as assigned and be available to respond to emergency situations. ODFW is not able to support VISA sponsorships.<\/p>\n We are seeking applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have the following skills and experience: <\/b><\/u><\/p>\n \nMinimum Qualifications<\/b><\/p>\n \u2022 An Associate’s degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture or Aquarium Science; OR<\/b><\/p>\n \u2022 Eighteen months of fish culture (care of fish) experience.
