The Communications Manager reports directly to the Director of Development and Communications and collaborates across all departments to craft and implement an effective and mission-centered communications strategy. This is expected to be a very hands-on position, leading LLTK\u2019s communication work from top to bottom. As such, the role offers significant potential for leadership and career growth.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a strategic, creative, and intersectional thinker, have experience growing constituencies, have developed communications plans, possess strong writing skills, and are excited to get into the community and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, we hope to hear from you.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Us <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LLTK\u2019s mission is to restore wild salmon and steelhead and support sustainable fishing in the Pacific Northwest. Since 1986, we have been advancing science, improving management, and implementing solutions to balance the needs of fish and people. LLTK envisions a sustainable Northwest with a growing human population, a thriving economy, and flourishing salmon runs.<\/p>\n<p>We have a 26-member Board of Directors, and 20 dedicated staff members. Of note, both staff and Board have recently begun a formal process of examining ourselves and our organization with a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens. Our intention is to do the short and long-term work so that we can authentically embrace DEI principles as a core value that drives the success of our people, our partners, and our work.<\/p>\n<p>Staff are located in Seattle, on Hood Canal, and on Orcas Island, and work throughout western Washington and the Pacific Northwest. This role is based in downtown Seattle in our administrative offices but will be working remotely during Covid-19.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Works with senior staff and Board to create short and long-term strategic communication plans; updates annually.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Oversees strategic planning, messaging, content development and maintenance, and expansion of LLTK\u2019s media presence.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Works closely with the Executive Director and program staff to execute appropriate organizational and programmatic messaging for growth, exposure, and to be more agile and responsive to local, state and federal issues that impact salmon recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Works closely with the Development and Communications Director on donor outreach strategies and materials, and event messaging.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Facilitates the Board Communications Committee to ensure timely and effective input on communication initiatives and platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Spearheads substantial list growth efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Identifies and successfully messages to specific target audiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Supports the development and implementation of LLTK\u2019s outreach and education programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Oversees development and management of various communications platforms and collateral pieces: annual report, communication plans and campaigns, website, project 2-pagers, social media channels, blog, email marketing platform, newsletters, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Builds and maintains relationships with media outlets and influencers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Researches and maintains up-to-date information on the communications landscape for salmon recovery and natural resource management.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Attends community events on behalf of Long Live the Kings.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Oversees all aspects of the organization\u2019s communications team, including: budgets, contractors and vendors, workflow, and dissemination of information to staff, Board Members and partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Networks with salmon recovery related entities locally, domestically, and internationally.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Skills &amp; Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree in a related field: English, journalism, communications, etc. or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training, and\/or 3-5+ years\u2019 experience in a similar position at a nonprofit, agency, academic institution, or corporation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Strong writer and storyteller, able to understand complex policy and scientific content to create compelling messaging for specific audiences, across a variety of platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Experience creating strategic communication plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Able to collaborate with government agencies and private sector partners to move mission forward and meet performance objectives.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment, or the willingness to quickly learn and do so.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Knowledge of list growth best practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Creative thinker ready to employ A\/B testing and analyze data to drive messaging content and send frequency.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Strong project manager with the ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Excellent proofreading, writing and copy-editing skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, email marketing platforms, website development platforms, and content management systems. Basic web coding knowledge a plus.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to proactively communicate and work well with others in a professional office environment.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desired Skills &amp; Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Excellent public presentation and interaction skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Passion for protecting and stewarding nature and wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Experience working with, and building relationships with, domestic and international media (specifically in the environmental\/conservation sector).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and other publishing software is preferred.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Experience collaborating with development staff to create intersectional communications and fundraising plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Prior environmental work experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to work independently in a remote environment. \u2022 Leadership role(s) in prior paid and\/or volunteer, positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Positivity, flexibility, and a sense of humor! We\u2019re a small team, we enjoy working hard together and having fun while doing it.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compensation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Salary range is $63,500-$68,500, depending upon qualifications.
