A typical work day may include\u00a0anything from registering\u00a0campers and collecting camp fees, to cleaning facilities, area beautification, or explaining park rules. The specific duties\u00a0will have some variation by park location.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<em>___________________________<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>This recruitment will be used to fill multiple non-permanent Park Aide positions located throughout the Upper Cowlitz Area; Ike Kinswa, Lewis and Clark , Mt. St. Helens Visot Center, and Seaquest State Parks. Most positions are 3-5 months in duration, beginning in April-May. The number of vacancies and housing availability will vary from park to park.<\/p>\n<p>Positions may be scheduled to work 40 hours a week during the busiest months but may be scheduled for less than full-time at the beginning and end of the season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>To read about other current and former park aides&#8217; experiences, click\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/parks.state.wa.us\/1056\/Park-Aides\">Here!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: This recruitment will remain open continuously; the hiring authority reserves the right and may exercise the option to make hiring decisions at any time and close the recruitment.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ike Kinswa State Park\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; (located\u00a0in\u00a0Lewis County)\u00a0is a 454-acre camping park with 46,000-feet of freshwater shoreline on the north side of Mayfield Lake. The park provides good fishing, recreational boating, and opportunities for swimming and children&#8217;s play.\u00a0The campsites are forested and available year-round.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lewis and Clark State Park-\u00a0<\/strong>(located in\u00a0Lewis County) is a 621-acre camping park situated in one of the last major stands of old-growth forest in the state. Coniferous trees, streams, wetlands, dense vegetation, and wet prairie comprise the park environment.\u00a0The park contains a vast stand of rare old-growth forest. It is a Civilian Conservation Corps park, and many of the buildings constructed by the corps remain in use today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seaquest State Park-\u00a0<\/strong>(located in\u00a0Cowlitz County) is a 475-acre, year-round camping park across the Spirit Lake Highway from the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center. Seasonal fishing, boating and swimming are available nearby.\u00a0The visitor center is a destination unto itself. Ranger talks, documentary film showings, naturalist-led hikes and interpretive exhibits bring to life the mountain&#8217;s geology and history. It&#8217;s a tour through time, from prehistory to the earth-altering 1980 explosion and the area&#8217;s recovery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mount St. Helens Visitor Center<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; (located in Cowlitz County) \u00a0This unique building provides visitors a variety of interpretive displays that include comprehensive information on local history, geology, re-growth and the recovery of the land in the years immediately following Mount St. Helen&#8217;s eruption. \u00a0Duties<\/p>\n<p>Under the supervision of the Park Ranger, Park\u00a0Aides perform\u00a0a variety of tasks at\u00a0a\u00a0State Park, beach, or historical area. A typical work day may include\u00a0anything from registering\u00a0campers and collecting camp fees, to cleaning facilities, mowing lawns, or explaining park rules. The specific duties\u00a0will have some variation by park location.<\/p>\n<p>Primary duties include,\u00a0but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All positions<strong>&#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0Maintain park facilities through light routine maintenance and janitorial services.<\/li>\n<li>Perform grounds maintenance work, such as cutting grass, weeding flower beds, pruning shrubs, raking leaves, and picking up litter.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain park lawns using a mower, weed eater, trimmer, and various maintenance tools.<\/li>\n<li>Provide park information to visitors and answer phones.<\/li>\n<li>Register campers, collect, sort and count revenue; prepare bank transmittals and deposits.<\/li>\n<li>Perform daily garbage collection and litter control.<\/li>\n<li>Clean restrooms and stock cleaning supplies.<\/li>\n<li>Clean rental properties and perform general housekeeping duties including washing windows, scrubbing floors, mopping, and sweeping.<\/li>\n<li>Drive light truck or other state vehicle to transport supplies and equipment within the park area; haul refuse and garbage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be a minimum of 17 years old.<\/li>\n<li>Possess a valid (unrestricted) driver&#8217;s license. &#8211; If your DL is out of state (other than WA State), you will be required to show proof of a valid and current unrestricted driver&#8217;s license at the time of the interview.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>Ability to learn and interpret park rules, area information, and local history and educate park visitors.<br \/>\nAbility to lead and instruct others and follow direction.<br \/>\nAbility to manage multiple projects and maintain organization, communication, and a reasonable completion time and quality.<br \/>\nAbility to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.<br \/>\nAbility to perform general maintenance to park buildings and facilities.<br \/>\nAbility to perform janitorial services, including the use of chemicals.<br \/>\nAbility to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.<br \/>\nAbility to work in all weather conditions.<br \/>\nAbility to work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.<br \/>\nAbility to learn about equipment servicing, diagnosing, and maintenance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIFORM INFORMATION:<\/strong><br \/>\nAll non-permanent Park Aides are required to wear a uniform.\u00a0 A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Park Aide and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee.\u00a0 All non-permanent Park Aides will receive 2 shirts, 1 baseball cap, and a clothing stipend of $75.00 per calendar year.
