Percy and Edwin Warner Parks span 3,200 acres of wooded hills, open meadows, and streams, and includes 16.75 miles of hiking trails. In partnership with the Friends of Warner Parks and Invasive Plant Control, Inc. two full time invasive plant field technician positions will be created. These positions will be one-year assignments with options to extend annually for two additional years. The WP Strike Team will be dedicated to treating and removing invasive vegetation within sites prioritized in the Invasive Plant Management Plan. The Friends of Warner Parks has set a goal to be Invasive Free by 2027. Highest priority sites will be areas that have been previously treated. Once previously treated sites have been maintained, the crew will work on untreated areas.<\/p>\n<p>The WP Strike Team mitigates damage from invasive plants by utilizing the most effective techniques to stop invasive plants. Crew members will spend most of their time managing invasive plants in the field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Service Location:<\/strong> Percy and Edwin Warner Parks in Nashville, TN<\/p>\n<p><strong>Term of Service:<\/strong> February 2021 through February 2022 with option to extend annually for two additional years. The typical workweek will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday with hours varying from 7:00 AM-7:00 PM. Uniforms and all equipment will be provided.<\/p>\n<p>\nInvasive Plant Management Crew<\/p>\n<p><strong>Functional Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This position includes one crew leader and one crew member with the ability to perform the necessary management of invasive species in a time efficient manner. The following responsibilities are required of the Invasive<\/p>\n<p><strong>Management Crew:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nOperates transportation equipment such as 4X4 truck with or without trailer for the purpose of traveling to work sites in a safe and courteous manner.<br \/>\nOperates field transportation equipment for the purpose of transporting him\/herself and up to a ten-member work crew.<br \/>\nConducts daily inspection and maintenance of truck and equipment.<br \/>\nConducts daily inspection and inventory of safety equipment for him\/herself and crew.<\/p>\n<p>\nTransfers, mixes, transports, and applies non-restricted use herbicides (NRH) and adjuvants or directly supervises &lt;10-person crew for the application of NRH. All instructions must be followed as labeled for all activities.<br \/>\nOperates equipment as needed for the proper application of herbicides and adjuvants or directly supervises &lt;10 person crew in the proper use of application equipment, including backpack sprayer, ATV, Argo, swamp buggy, airboat, skiff w\/ outboard motor, and 4X4 truck.<br \/>\nOperates spray apparatus, including electric pump, gas powered pumps, and hand pumps or directly supervises &lt;10 person crew.<br \/>\nConducts daily inspections and maintenance of equipment and spray apparatus.<\/p>\n<p>\nAssumes responsibility for crew safety, navigation, and training.<br \/>\nProperly completes daily work logs and reporting logs for equipment maintenance and delivers to Project Manager.<br \/>\nProperly completes Daily Progress Reports (DPR\u2019s) for each job for each day and delivers to Project Manager.<\/p>\n<p>\nAdheres to label instructions and IPC Safety Guidelines in all aspects of work.<br \/>\nMaintain driving record in compliance with insurance carrier\u2019s criteria.<br \/>\nProject planning and execution including material management (herbicides, biocontrol agents, equipment, tools) and mapping.<\/p>\n<p>\nPrepares bi-monthly reports on project performance and progress.<br \/>\nDiscuss goals and desires to passersby in an understanding way<br \/>\nAbility to correctly identify all invasive plant with minimal review, and to discriminate invasive plants from any native vegetation of similar appearance.<\/p>\n<p>\nHave a sound academic knowledge of ecological principles as they relate to vegetation management.<\/p>\n<p>\nHave a working, current knowledge of resource management methods, biological processes and vegetation sample techniques.<\/p>\n<p>\nHave knowledge of data organization, record keeping, and global positioning system (GPS).<\/p>\n<p>\nKnowledge, ability, and willingness to handle herbicides in the course of vegetation management.<\/p>\n<p>\nKnowledge of treatment history of previously treated sites.<br \/>\nFamiliarity with invasive plant data management protocols and requirements of the client<\/p>\n<p>\nAbility to mix, handle, and apply herbicides in accordance with label directions and crew supervisor instructions<\/p>\n<p>\nAbility to handle and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order for daily operations<\/p>\n<p>Perform on-the-ground management<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Minimum Education\/Degree Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\nMinimum of a B.S. degree in one of the following disciplines is required: environmental science, natural resources, biological sciences, ecology, forestry, wildlife management, or related field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Training\/Certification Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\nAbility to obtain an applicators license issued from the state of Tennessee listing the appropriate application category (Forestry or right of way), current CPR card, and ability to train applicators working under his\/her license.<br \/>\nBe trained in the operation of chainsaws, brushcutters, gasoline powered sprayers.<br \/>\nBe certified in CPR and First Aid; preferably back country\/1st responder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compensation<\/strong><br \/>\nCrew Leader will be compensated at $18.50 per hour<br \/>\nField Technicians are compensated at $16.00 per hour<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\nApplicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien; pass a criminal history check of the national sex-offender registry, state repository check, FBI fingerprint check and drug test. Documentation of age, education and citizenship are required.
