Dates can be flexible to accommodate school start and end dates.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary Range:<br \/>\nSophomore and under: $14.05 per hour<br \/>\nJunior: $15.05 per hour<br \/>\nSenior: $16.05 per hour<br \/>\nGraduate student: up to $19.05 per hour<br \/>\n*DNR provides housing in some locations or a $500\/month housing stipend if free housing is not available.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Want to join something GREAT and make a difference?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The South Puget Sound Region is actively recruiting for two exempt Recreation and Conservation Public Outreach and Education Interns in the Snoqualmie Unit Recreation Program. \u00a0These are full-time exempt intern positions with anticipated appointment dates of either mid-May through August, or mid-June through September. \u00a0 There is flexibility with these appointment dates to accommodate school start and end dates. \u00a0The work will involve a flexible schedule that includes routine evening and weekend work. \u00a0The duty station is located in North Bend, WA. \u00a0There is a $500\/month (maximum of three months) housing stipend available.<\/p>\n<p>Do you want to gain first-hand, real-world experience the areas of recreation and conservation? \u00a0Are you majoring in a field that relates to a career in these areas? \u00a0 If so, you may be the perfect candidate for the DNR Recreation and Conservation Public Outreach and Education Internship Program. \u00a0The opportunity offers interns valuable networking possibilities and on-the-job experience.<\/p>\n<p>The Snoqualmie Corridor encompasses approximately 55,000 acres of DNR-managed state trust lands and natural areas. \u00a0This includes working forests such as Tiger Mountain and Raging River State Forests which provide a stream of revenue to public schools and other trust beneficiaries through timber harvest and other forest products. \u00a0Natural Areas include the Mount Si, Middle Fork Snoqualmie, West Tiger Mountain Natural Resource Conservation Areas (NRCAs) and the Rattlesnake Mountain Scenic Area, which provide protection to the State\u2019s most scenic landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and rare plant and animal habitats. \u00a0The Snoqualmie Corridor includes over 200 miles of trails, 13 recreation sites and over 1 million annual user visits per year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><br \/>\nResponsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting education efforts in the Snoqualmie Corridor, including working with volunteers, focusing on outreach (at popular, busy trailheads and back-country trails). This position will also conduct field inspections and evaluate trails and facilities, including after permitted organized events, light trail maintenance and trail signage implementation. This position may also assist with trail, trailhead, day-use facility development projects and maintenance, Invasive species surveying and removal, graffiti and trash removal, non-designated trail documentation and other incident reporting activities as needed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant must be a student majoring In Recreation, Natural Resource Management, Communication Studies, Environmental Education or closely related field and will be returning to school in a following quarter\/semester,<\/li>\n<li>High level of detail and strong communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Physical ability to work alone or as part of a team in undeveloped, remote, forested or back-country terrain. Ability to hike moderate to difficult terrain in all weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Experience using Microsoft office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.<\/li>\n<li>Must be available to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and most weekends<\/li>\n<li>Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.<\/li>\n<li>Must have a valid driver\u2019s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. \u00a0Employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements.
