Provide course descriptions as necessary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Basic Requirement:<\/strong><br \/>\n<b>Degree:\u00a0<\/b>Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor&#8217;s or higher degree that included a major field of study in: botany; or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany.<br \/>\n<b>OR<\/b><br \/>\nCombination of education and experience &#8212; courses equivalent to a major in botany or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.<\/p>\n<p>For positions dealing with the study of fungi, or with basic mycological relationships, the course work in botany must have included at least 6 semester hours in mycology. Courses in basic botany, plant anatomy or morphology, cytology, histology, genetics, taxonomy or systematics, algology, mycology, ethnobotany, and those dealing with specific problems of a botanical nature or with specific groups of plants are qualifying. The courses required for mycologists are specific and must have been in mycology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition to meeting the basic requirement described above, the following additional experience is required for the grade specified.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Specialized Experience Requirement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For the GS-12 level<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service.\u00a0<strong>Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following:<\/strong><br \/>\nCoordinated with external entities in regards to plant conservation, restoration, and native plant material development; provided technical advice on botany and plant conservation for various ecosystems; conducted environmental data collection field surveys for threatened, endangered, and sensitive plants; monitored effects of unit&#8217;s plan implementation on plant communities and interpreted trends; assisted in developing sensitive plant lists and plant species management guidelines for plants found on the unit.<\/p>\n<p>Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
