\nTHIS IS A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT ANTICIPATED TO END BY JUNE 2021 OR EARLIER.<\/strong><\/p>\nMetro Parks Tacoma (MPT) is a CAPRA-accredited and AZA-accredited, independent park district that leads efforts to build a healthy, sustainable community. \u00a0Metro Parks Tacoma is located in Tacoma, Washington. The system is comprised of many different park facilities that offer residents a variety of recreational opportunities. From waterfront access to local neighborhood parks to large regional facilities and attractions, the MPT system is both a local community asset and regional destination.<\/p>\n

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position is responsible for teaching and supervising youth in variety of classes or programs offered through the District. Primary work will be with school aged youth, in an afterschool club setting.<\/p>\n

- Essential Duties<\/dt>\n

\n- Plan, organize, and implement youth services activities including but not limited to arts & crafts, science experiments, games, nature walks, sports, theater and songs.<\/li>\n
- Supervise and positively manage all assigned groups of children.<\/li>\n
- Ensure compliance with all COVID 19 and other applicable safety protocols\/procedures.<\/li>\n
- Provide a safe, fun and engaging atmosphere for camp participants.<\/li>\n
- Be actively involved with children and engage in activities at all times.<\/li>\n
- Work closely with other employees in an enthusiastic, cooperative and supportive manner; ensure collaboration with all staff.<\/li>\n
- Participate in the administration of the food program, according to USDA grant guidelines with inventory, contribute to tracking, and distribution of lunches and snacks.<\/li>\n
- Develop positive, supportive relationships with participants, parents & the public.<\/li>\n
- Prepare information and promotional materials for assigned site; overseeing inventory and tracking of equipment and supplies; and maintaining records and preparing reports.<\/li>\n
- Represent Metro Parks Tacoma professionally at all times.<\/li>\n
- Enforce discipline as needed.<\/li>\n
- May be required to drive\u00a0a 15 passenger van.<\/li>\n
- Perform emergency first aid and CPR as needed and according to established guidelines; provide for proper safety of participants in recreational programs.<\/li>\n

- Minimum Qualifications<\/dt>\n

Must be available to work the entire assigned season; Fall, Winter\/Spring, Summer.
\nMust be able to attend the mandatory training and orientation.
\nMust have the ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
\nMust be at least 18 years of age and possess a GED or HS diploma to work with K-5th populations and at least 21 years of age to work with teen populations. Preference for these positions given to those at least 21 years of age and\/or those seeking Full Time seasonal positions.
\nMust\u00a0have a valid\u00a0First-Aid and CPR cards before date of employment.
\nAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
\nMust have leadership skills with ability to be a team player.
\nMust be creative, energetic and patient.
\nMust have at least two years of working with children ages 5-12 or teen youth.
\nAbility to speak Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese and\/or Cambodian desired.
\nMust have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record to drive a 15 passenger van.\n<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

\nRecreational facilities and park environment involving indoor and outdoor assignments.<\/p>\n

\nWalking over rough or uneven surfaces outside in park locations and on field trips.
