\u00a0Washington State Department of Natural Resources is home to Washington\u2019s largest on-call fire department and protects 13 million acres of state and privately owned lands.<\/p>\n<p>You will join the South Puget Sound Region as the Pinnacle Fire Unit Manager. \u00a0This position will be responsible for the Pinnacle Unit and all aspects of fire prevention, preparedness, training, suppression, and regulation. \u00a0 You will accomplish these tasks working with region DNR staff, Washington Fire Service, and other state and federal agencies. \u00a0 \u00a0As region fire leadership, with a commitment to Wildland Core Values of Duty, Respect and Integrity, you will have an opportunity to continue building the region\u2019s fire program and creating an environment that promotes a climate focused on safety, high standards, and critical and innovative thinking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing and implementing your fire unit operations plan<\/li>\n<li>Creating and maintaining suppression plans working with interagency cooperators<\/li>\n<li>Planning and developing annual fire training plans for unit employees<\/li>\n<li>Developing cooperative agreements with other agencies and making recommendations for their approval by the department<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating and maintaining the unit\u2019s state owned equipment inventory system<\/li>\n<li>Participating in wildland fire suppression assignments in region and out-of-region<\/li>\n<li>Serving as an incident commander on Type 3, 4, and 5 wildland fires within the unit and region<\/li>\n<li>Reviewing\/writing incident reports, narratives and investigation reports<\/li>\n<li>Developing, assigning and implementing unit fire prevention activities promoting fire safety awareness<\/li>\n<li>Implementing the fire unit\u2019s regulatory program<\/li>\n<li>Providing required reviews of unit Forest Fire Protection Assessments (FFPA)<\/li>\n<li>In all tasks, considering the Risk Management Process, especially in high pressure or fast-paced situations to ensure sound and timely decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Certified as a NWCG Single Resource Boss and Type 4 NWCG Incident Commander or higher qualifications. Qualifications at this level must be maintained and current.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated successful experience coordinating and functioning as a NWCG instructor teaching 200 or higher level wildland fire courses.<\/li>\n<li>Successful experience independently planning, evaluating and reviewing outcomes and providing guidance, advice or direction.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with wildland fire suppression strategies and tactics as currently practiced in the Pacific Northwest.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge of wildland fire behavior and suppression tactics.<\/li>\n<li>Possess strong written and verbal communications skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to make sound decisions in stressful, fast-paced situations.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to be a successful leader and contributing team player within a defined work group.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work under minimal supervision within established procedures, methods and standards; provide direct supervision to assigned staff; use tactical thinking to address various personnel and customer service issues; and implement management goals, strategies, policies, and resource allocation<\/li>\n<li>Proficient working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to develop work plans, time lines, budgets, and training course outlines\/plans.<\/li>\n<li>This position requires driving as an essential function. Essential means that driving is a fundamental, crucial part of this position and not a marginal function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Bachelor\u2019s degree in wildfire science, environmental science or a closely related field.<\/li>\n<li>Six years of experience in wildland fire suppression and regulation, including at least four years of supervisory experience OR two years as a Wildland Fire Operations Technician 3.<\/li>\n<li>Training including Risk Assessment and Mitigation Strategies, Fire Prevention, and facilitation.<\/li>\n<li>Combination of five years\u2019 experience working directly in wildland fire suppression, with three years in Single Resource Boss and Incident Commander positions.<\/li>\n<li>Certification as Type 3 NWCG incident commander<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of applicable collective bargaining agreements, employment rules and regulations as they apply to permanent, seasonal career and seasonal DNR employees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nOne of the world&#8217;s most scenic places, Washington State offers breathtaking discoveries for people who love natural beauty and outdoor recreation, from the Pacific Coast shores to the rugged Cascade Mountains to the rolling hills of the Palouse.
