We ground our policies in community-based research and vet potential policy opportunities people and organizations serving BIPOC workers, their families and communities. From this process, we have advocated for and passed some of our region\u2019s most exciting policies that promote climate justice, good jobs and equitable development in low-wage and people of color communities. Our campaigns and theory of change are rooted in racial justice, which for us means work for Black liberation and in solidarity with Indigenous communities as we collectively build power in our region. Our family of organizations includes Puget Sound Sage (501c3) and Sage Leaders (501c4), an affiliated organization that cultivates deep democracy in Washington state by developing Black, Indigenous and People of Color community leaders for civic and elected leadership.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE POSITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sage seeks an experienced Deputy Director to lead the internal operations of these dynamic, values-driven organizations.<\/p>\n<p>We are looking for someone who is passionate about building strong teams and effective management in a social justice setting \u2013 creating an environment rooted in love where our people come first and Black brilliance shines; and a skilled finance professional who finds joy in leading efficient accounting and operations systems in service of a bold mission.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Director will report to the Interim Executive Director, supervise 2-3 staff in Finance, Operations and Human Resources and lead the organization\u2019s management team.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Organizational Management (25%)<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Support a Management team of 6 Directors to align and advance organizational activities<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Create a strong culture of management and supervision across the organization that results in a sustainable work environment where our majority Black, Indigenous, People of color and queer staff thrive.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Lead annual work-planning and budget development process with a racial and economic justice framework that advances Black liberation and Indigenous solidarity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finance Director (25%) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Manage finances for combined $2M budget and staff of 19.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Partner with Development and Communications Director to execute regular financial reporting for Budget Management Team, Board and funders including for government contracts and multi-year program-restricted foundation grants.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Oversee all regular finance activities including payroll, billing and invoice processes, monthly financial reconciliation and invoicing between 501c3 and 501c4, conducted by Finance Manager and contract Book-keepers.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Maintain and update financial policies and lead annual Financial Audit with external firm.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Maintain relationships and accounts with our financial institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Operations (20%) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Oversee all aspects of facilities at our leased office in the International District.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Manage program for Information Technology (IT) infrastructure including servers, internet and phone service.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Support team to maintain high-functioning technology that supports virtual work including hardware, software and web-based programs.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Oversee organizational compliance for our 501c3 and 501c4 organization, including lobbying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Supervision and Ops Team Management (20%) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Cultivate a high-performing operations team.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Supervise 2-3 Coordinator and Manager-level staff in Finance, Human Resources and Operations, including supporting their professional development and growth.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Develop an outcome-based annual Operations work-plan; track and measure performance against that plan<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Create a positive team environment that makes Sage Ops a great place to work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff the Board of Directors (10%) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Steward relationships with 8-12 Board Members and cultivate pipeline for Board recruitment.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Design agendas and coordinate report development for every-other-month Board meetings and Committees (Executive and Finance).<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Support Board members in executing their roles in governance, fundraising and program to advance our mission.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Professional Experience<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Experience in a Director-level Organizational Leadership role<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Senior experience in management and supervision, including formal training and a track-record of developing and retaining a high performing team in a social change setting<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 1-3 years experience in Operations, Human Resources or Finance<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skills, Knowledge, and Values<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist, social justice work, including knowledge and familiarity of equity frameworks and the capacity to lead within such a framework<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Expertise in non-profit accounting including working knowledge of Quickbooks, management of double-entry accounting (e.g. chart of accounts, debits and credits, normal balances), implementing internal controls and financial reporting<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Intermediate Excel ability including ability to use Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Strong and clear communication skills, including in writing<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Strong and demonstrable skill in strategic planning, management, and execution<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Working knowledge of non-profit (c)3 and c(4) compliance<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Collaborative leadership style<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional desired, but not required experience: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Knowledge or experience in one of Sage\u2019s core program areas: Climate Justice, Equitable Development, Good Jobs for BIPOC workers or Leadership Development<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Working knowledge of policy development and advocacy or community organizing 3 of 3<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMPENSATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The annual salary for this position is $80,000-$90,000.
