The Fisheries Biologist will be responsible for building and maintaining a Fisheries program within Qawalangin Tribe and will oversee all funded projects within the department as well as supervise seasonal technician and any applicable interns. Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<p>1. Take the leadership role for the Qawalangin Tribe Fisheries program under the direction of the Environmental Director with support from tribal staff. Assist as needed to support other Tribe programs and complete duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>2. Develop a co-investigator strategy with Alaska Depart of Fish and Game (ADF&amp;G) for the Wislow\/McLees Lake weir project.<\/p>\n<p>3. Work with the Alaska Maritime Wildlife Refuge to develop and implement a cooperative program to align with the goals of the refuge.<\/p>\n<p>4. Develop and implement a community outreach and education program that will provide training and technical assistance to the community. Education and outreach topics may include local subsistence fisheries management, shellfish and PSP monitoring efforts, water quality and other habitat considerations.<\/p>\n<p>5. Supervise a seasonal technician and\/or summer intern(s) working on fisheries projects that range from field data collection to education and outreach activities.<\/p>\n<p>6. Live and work at remote field camps in challenging conditions for up to 8 weeks at a time while conducting field work in support of the program.<\/p>\n<p>7. Develop long-term program plans that may include subsistence salmon research, projects addressing other species of concern including shellfish and other subsistence species, and habitat and water quality considerations.<\/p>\n<p>8. Develop partnerships with local and regional organizations, industry, federal and state management agencies, and others to support sustainable fisheries.<\/p>\n<p>9. Seek and obtain funding for future program and project development.<\/p>\n<p>10. Fulfill reporting requirements for grants and partner organizations such as AK Sea Grant.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>This position is a term-limited (3-year), full-time position eligible for staff benefits (holidays, paid personal leave, health insurance, SIMPLE IRA retirement plan, basic life and AD&amp;D insurance, supplemental disability insurance, and emergency medivac services membership).<\/p>\n<p>This position is grantfunded with the expectation that the incumbent will identify and seek additional funding to continue beyond the 3-year term. Moving or relocation cost offset may be available up to a limited amount. This position will be salaried, and compensation will be commensurate with experience.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree in Fisheries Management or related field.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Minimum of 2 years of fisheries management, research, education, and community outreach experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Strong report writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Experience coordinating, prioritizing, and effectively managing time across multiple projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Experience working effectively with the public, tribal community, and governmental agencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to work independently and follow directives.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Valid AK Driver\u2019s License with willingness to travel locally and spend time in the field (up to 8 weeks per year) to oversee projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Relevant computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>HOW TO APPLY<\/p>\n<p>Complete application packet must include the following and be submitted to <a href=\"mailto:jobs@qawalangin.com\">jobs@qawalangin.com<\/a> by 3 pm Alaska Time, January 8, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Cover letter.
