Inspire\u00a0the next generation of STEM professionals by connecting youth with Puget Sound\u2019s\u00a0wild lands and waters!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program\u00a0Description:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) Land Labs program will utilize local protected\u202flands to\u202fenhance the quality of\u202fScience,\u202fTechnology,\u202fEngineering, and\u202fMath (STEM)\u202feducation in Bremerton, Washington schools. Hands-on science projects\u00a0will support the\u00a0vision of the Washington State Environmental and Sustainability Literacy Plan and meet the requirements of Washington State Science and Learning Standards (WSSLS).\u00a0The program will\u00a0engage students directly in big picture environmental concerns affecting their local communities, and\u00a0open students\u2019 eyes to\u00a0professional opportunities in the\u202fenvironmental science\u202ffield. The Land Labs program\u00a0will help\u00a0prepare students from\u00a0low-income families and\u00a0underachieving schools\u00a0for success in post-secondary education and careers in\u202fSTEM.<\/p>\n<p>Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit land trust dedicated to protecting the natural habitats, rural landscapes, and open spaces of the Great Peninsula region of\u202fwest Puget Sound, Washington.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Member Duties:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Land Labs Education Coordinator VISTA will play an integral role in the design and development of the Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC)\u00a0Land Labs program. The\u202fEducation Coordinator VISTA will foster relationships with participating schools, community members and stakeholders; write standards-based curriculum; train teachers; and\u202fground truth\u202fthe program. In addition,\u202fthey\u202fwill\u202fbe part of the\u202fteam developing the organizational capacity of GPC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build relationships with\u00a0local schools and community partners;<\/li>\n<li>Manage Land Labs program logistics and scheduling;<\/li>\n<li>Design\u00a0Land Labs curriculum\u00a0that aligns\u00a0with Washington State Science Learning Standards;<\/li>\n<li>Ground truth\u00a0teacher training workshops;<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with\u00a0a\u00a0diverse team;<\/li>\n<li>Develop, maintain, and expand the\u00a0Land Labs\u00a0program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passion for\u00a0Great Peninsula Conservancy\u2019s\u00a0mission and vision;<\/li>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree in education,\u00a0environmental\u00a0science, or a related field;<\/li>\n<li>Strong\u00a0writing skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong communication skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong organizational skills;<\/li>\n<li>High degree of initiative and spirit of service;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: strong understanding of education standards\u00a0and\u00a0curriculum development;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: experience teaching in formal or informal settings;<\/li>\n<li>Preferred: experience working at or managing summer camp programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>AmeriCorps VISTA:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC)\u00a0VISTA position is funded by the Corporations for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. To learn more about the AmeriCorps programs visit americorps.gov.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compensation:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $1,178\/month, health benefits during their service, and have the option of receiving an AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,195 or post-service stipend of $1,800 after completing their service.
