THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION EFFECTIVE APPROXIMATELY FEBRUARY 1ST TO JULY 15TH. NOT BENEFITS ELIGIBLE.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>POSITION SUMMARY:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Scientific Technician II will work under direction of the Puyallup Tribal Fisheries staff to monitor juvenile salmon during spring emigration using a rotary screw trap on the Puyallup and White Rivers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Help install, maintain and monitor rotary screw traps in the Puyallup and White Rivers.<br \/>\n2. Sample and collect data in the field; including identification of juvenile pacific salmon and other local freshwater species, taking\/recording length, collecting scales and DNA tissue, and PIT tagging.<br \/>\n3. Perform trap calibration experiments using mark-recapture methods for a variety of juvenile salmon species.<br \/>\n4. Enter field data collected into excel database for analysis, includes QA\/QC.<br \/>\n5. Work in inclement weather during day and night shifts to protect the trap from flood damage and clear trap of debris.<br \/>\n6. Provide security at the trap location and maintain trap; including, grease fittings, riveting screens, using axe\/chainsaw and fixing mechanical issues that may arise.<br \/>\n7. Perform other fisheries duties as assigned, which may include: cleaning raceways\/hatchery maintenance, adult spawner surveys, beach seining and adult sampling.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong><label>Qualifications:<\/label><\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"item-value\"><strong>Education and\/or Experience<\/strong><br \/>\nMinimum requirement of an A.A.S., in addition to two years of field experience in fisheries; or a Bachelor&#8217;s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Environmental Science or related field from a four-year college or university. Must have beginning to intermediate computer skills in Excel and Word and be able to accurately enter and compile data into a computer spreadsheet. Also must be comfortable working in and around boats in inclement weather.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Licenses or Certificates<\/strong><br \/>\nMust have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Driver\u2019s License and proof of auto insurance.
