Heritage University (Toppenish, WA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><b>JOB DESCRIPTION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>TITLE:<\/b>\u00a0Adjunct Science Faculty (All Fields)<\/p>\n<p><b>COLLEGE:<\/b>\u00a0Arts and Sciences\u00a0<b>DATE PREPARED:<\/b>\u00a0November 8, 2016<\/p>\n<p><b>REPORTS TO:<\/b>\u00a0Chair of Science Department\u00a0<b>FLSA:<\/b>\u00a0Exempt<\/p>\n<p><b>POSITION SUMMARY:<\/b><br \/>\nThe position has primary responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in the Science Department when needed.<br \/>\nScience fields in which Heritage hires adjuncts include biology, chemistry, environmental science, environmental<br \/>\nstudies, physics, physical science, and science education. Faculty will attend university meetings as required. This<br \/>\nposition may be required to teach at one or more regional locations.<\/p>\n<p><b>PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. Represent Heritage University in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients,<br \/>\nsuppliers, and community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and other<br \/>\ncustomers of our services, learns and uses operating practices of the department and Heritage University.<\/p>\n<p>2. Uphold the Heritage University Mission Statement.<\/p>\n<p>3. Teach lecture and laboratory classes consistent with the applicant\u2019s field of study, or other classes as needed.<br \/>\nDesired fields in which Heritage hires adjuncts include biology, chemistry, environmental science, environmental<br \/>\nstudies, physics, physical science, and science education.<\/p>\n<p>4. Develop curricula and innovative teaching materials for the lecture and laboratory courses, as needed.<\/p>\n<p>5. Provide academic assistance to students outside of normal class hours and demonstrate a willingness to work with<br \/>\nand motivate these students to better prepare students for academic success.<\/p>\n<p>6. Handle confidential information with tact, discretion, and in compliance with FERPA regulations.<\/p>\n<p><b>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. A Ph.D. (preferred) or Master\u2019s degree in a science field from an accredited institution.<\/p>\n<p>2. Applicants must possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching activities.<\/p>\n<p>3. Able to teach various undergraduate science courses in the applicant\u2019s field of study. Developing<br \/>\nlaboratory curricula to improve teaching laboratories is expected when needed.<\/p>\n<p>4. Working knowledge of the science instrumentation and techniques consistent with the field of study.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>5. Experience in teaching diverse groups of students is preferred, including expertise in instructional<br \/>\nstrategies for English language learners.<\/p>\n<p>6. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.<\/p>\n<p>7. Compatibility with a highly collegial, service-oriented faculty dedicated to improving education in<br \/>\ndiverse settings.<\/p>\n<p>8. Demonstrated skill in using technology in assessment, teaching tools, and software such as Microsoft Office<br \/>\n(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat\/Reader, and course management software (Blackboard,<br \/>\nWebCT, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>9. Experience or the desire to teach via online\/alternative delivery modes is preferred.<\/p>\n<p>10. Experience or the desire to learn about assessment strategies and willingness to participate in university wide<br \/>\nand programmatic student and program assessment procedures.<\/p>\n<p>11. Initiative, commitment to accomplishment, adaptability, and sensitivity to program and candidate needs.<\/p>\n<p>12.
