Recent emergencies have highlighted the importance of equitable access to urban trees and green spaces, and this position is key to helping the City develop and maintain those green spaces for the health and well-being of all Seattle residents. We support\u00a0and hold ourselves accountable to this commitment by eliminating barriers to access and providing\u00a0employees with equitable opportunities for professional growth and advancement.<\/p>\n<p>Job Responsibilities<\/p>\n<p>Trees for Seattle is an interdepartmental program of the City of Seattle, housed in Seattle Public Utilities&#8217; Drainage and Wastewater Line of Business. The Trees for Seattle team is committed to ensuring that Seattle&#8217;s urban forest is a vital and equitable resource for the health and well-being of all Seattle residents. This includes people of color, low-income, immigrant, and refugee communities. The Trees for Seattle Supervisor will oversee a small team dedicated to engaging a diverse public in urban forestry stewardship and policy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Essential duties include but are not limited to<\/u>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creating opportunities for the City to collaboratively engage with diverse communities on urban forestry issues<\/li>\n<li>Supporting City efforts to build trust in historically marginalized communities<\/li>\n<li>Evaluating, redesigning, and managing the Tree Ambassador volunteer stewardship program<\/li>\n<li>Shaping Trees for Seattle work to be more equitable and serve a more diverse population<\/li>\n<li>Working closely with other City of Seattle departments to guide city wide urban forestry policy, implement the Urban Forest Management Plan, and implement programs<\/li>\n<li>Supervising and guiding the Trees for Neighborhoods planting program<\/li>\n<li>Designing content for web, newsletter, and social media channels<\/li>\n<li>Supporting urban greening efforts in Seattle Public Utilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Education Requirement<\/u>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Planning, Urban Design, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, or a related discipline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Experience Requirement<\/u>:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Four (4) years&#8217; experience in planning and research related to land use, urban economics, human services, environmental issues, conservation;\u00a0<em><strong>OR<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0other work directly related to City planning and development activities; including one-year of lead\u00a0project management experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A combination of education, training and\/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class will be considered.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Certification Requirement<\/u>:\u00a0<\/strong>Arborist or Municipal Arborist Certification from the International Socieity of Arboriculture (ISA)\u00a0<strong><em>OR\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the ability to gain certification within 6-months of hire.(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isa-arbor.com\/\">International Society of Arboriculture<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The successful candidate(s), will have the following desired qualifications<\/u>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience in urban forestry or urban greening<\/li>\n<li>Community engagement experience, including work with communities of color<\/li>\n<li>Ability to lead small teams successfully<\/li>\n<li>Strong written and oral communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent customer service<\/li>\n<li>Ability to convey complex technical information in engaging and easy to understand ways<\/li>\n<li>Experience in program design and evaluation<\/li>\n<li>Experience in using\u00a0social media to meet program and engagement goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional Information<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Work Schedule<\/u><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday through Thursday\u00a0<em><strong>OR<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0Tuesday through Friday (32 hours per week); Primarily\u00a0Day Shift;\u00a0(may require some off-shift evening and\/or weekend\u00a0assignments)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Application Package Expectation<\/u><\/strong>:<br \/>\nA complete application package, including the following, is required for this position:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A full SPU online application;<\/li>\n<li>Supporting documentation, including a current resume and cover letter describing your skills and experience\u00a0in relation to this position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><em>*An Incomplete Application Package will not be considered*<\/em>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong><u>Workplace Environment (*Telework Expectation)<\/u><\/strong>:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Most work is performed in a normal City work\/office environment; however, we expect this position will require telework\/remote office work\u00a0due to the Covid-19 pandemic\/health concern.
