Dr. Whyte is a Citizen Potawatomi enrolled member and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/seas.umich.edu\/research\/faculty\/kyle-whyte\">professor of environment and sustainability<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Michigan (formerly at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kylewhyte.cal.msu.edu\/\">Michigan State University<\/a>). His work \u201caddresses moral and political issues concerning climate policy and Indigenous peoples, the ethics of cooperative relationships between Indigenous peoples and science organizations, and problems of Indigenous justice in public and academic discussions of food sovereignty, environmental justice, and the Anthropocene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Whyte will be hosted by the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.evergreen.edu\/catalog\/offering\/conceptualizing-place-pacific-northwest-native-art-and-geographies-26512\">Conceptualizing Place: Pacific Northwest Native Art and Geographies<\/a>\u201d program (Alex McCarty &amp; Zolt\u00e1n Grossman), and his talk will also be attended by the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.evergreen.edu\/catalog\/offering\/climate-academy-justice-and-resilience-30566\">Climate Academy<\/a>\u201d (Rachel Hastings), \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.evergreen.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/2020%20Writing%20and%20Community%20Academic%20Fair%20Handout%20%281%29_0.pdf\">Writing &amp; Community<\/a>\u201d (Alice Nelson, Catalina Ocampo, &amp; Center for Community-Based Learning &amp; Action\/CCBLA),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.evergreen.edu\/catalog\/offering\/terroirmeroir-toward-agroecological-agribusiness-24009\">\u201cTerroir\/Meroir\u201d\u00a0<\/a>(Prita Lal, Steven Sheuerell, Sarah Williams), \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.evergreen.edu\/catalog\/offering\/introduction-environmental-studies-water-24086\">Introduction to Environmental Studies: Water<\/a>\u201d (Kristina Ackley, Shangrila Joshi, &amp; Pauline Yu), and other programs are welcome to join. The times on Tuesday, November 10, are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At 10:00-11:10 am, Zolt\u00e1n Grossman will brief our Conceptualizing Place class on Pacific Northwest Native climate resilience, including the 25-minute Quinault climate documentary\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crosscut.com\/2019\/12\/crosscut-documentaries-presents-rising\"><em>The Rising<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em>and discuss the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/indigenousclimate\/\">Climate Change and Pacific Rim Indigenous Nations Project<\/a>\u00a0founded in 2006 at Evergreen<em>.\u00a0<\/em>That section will be prerecorded to make it available asynchronously ahead of time, and both the lecture and film will also be screened at that time for students to watch synchronously. Other programs are welcome to synchronously attend to watch the lecture and video at 10:00 am, or watch them asynchronously and join the discussion at 11:10 am.<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Whyte will be introduced and speak at 11:30 am-12:50 pm in a live webinar format that will allow for questions. He will include his work with tribal climate youth camps and cross-cultural environmental alliances.
