There are also 51 tribal hatcheries and 12 federal hatcheries that produce salmon and steelhead for harvest.\u00a0\u00a0 Hatcheries have operated in Washington State for more than a century, beginning with a facility on the Kalama River in 1895.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Female salmon being spawned for next year\u2019s brood stock.<\/strong>\n<\/div>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Duties<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Assist in daily Hatchery operations<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Feed Fish<\/li>\n<li>Clean intakes<\/li>\n<li>Clean raceways<\/li>\n<li>Loading mass marking trailer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Recordkeeping and Reporting<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist hatchery staff in recording fish, collected, eggs taken, feed and pond mortalities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Operation and Maintenance of Facility<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Washes and clean ponds, intakes, tanks, troughs and egg trays.<\/li>\n<li>Operating high pressure pumps and manual cleaning of rearing containers with brooms and brushes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Operation and Maintenance of Equipment<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist hatchery staff in performing equipment maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other duties as assigned<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Occasionally drives a standard truck or flatbed to deliver hatchery supplies.<\/li>\n<li>Drive a standard truck or flatbed to deliver hatchery supplies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Standing in cold water most of the time collecting fish.<\/li>\n<li>Performing strenuous physical activities.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to lift-up to 30 pounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The schedule will be Monday \u2013 Friday 7:00 am \u2013 3:30 pm, hours may vary depending on weather and availability of fish.<\/li>\n<li>Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours and adjustment of work schedules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Travel requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maybe required to travel to other hatcheries to assist in hatchery operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Performs mechanical tasks using power and hand tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Customer Interactions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communicate effectively with the public.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is no agency housing available for this position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Union &#8211; Wildlife, and the Washington Association of Fish Hatchery Professionals (WAFHP).<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school or GED. \u00a0<strong>Preferred work experience in a hatchery setting.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Knowledge and Abilities Desired:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Basic fish culture techniques; rearing procedures; able to identify adult salmonids<\/li>\n<li>Water dynamics (e.g. flows, flow patterns, availability, temperature, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Basic math (add\/subtract\/multiply\/divide); calculate and understand quantities and proportions<\/li>\n<li>Computer knowledge;
