Over the next several weeks reviews of application submissions, hiring and\u00a0onboarding\u00a0processes may be extended beyond our normal timeframes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0We appreciate your patience during this time and thank you for your interest in employment with Tacoma Community College.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Summary:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Mathematics Engineering, Science, Achievement (MESA) Program is a nationally recognized academic enrichment program\u00a0 that serves underrepresented population to meet future and global workforce demands in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).<\/p>\n<p>The MESA Program Support Specialist provides support services and advocacy to increase retention, completion, and transfer for students accepted as MESA Program Scholars. The MESA Program Support Specialist will support student mentoring, outreach efforts, new student interviews, on and off campus programming, identifying career pathways, individualized retention strategies, and connecting students to various campus and community resources in an effort to build vibrant student communities, emphasizing academic excellence and promoting a holistic approach to student success. They encourage and empower student participation in the MESA program. This position reports to the MESA Program Director.<\/dd>\n<dt>Essential Functions<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide support for individual students from pre-admission processes through key milestones in their academic career.<\/li>\n<li>Develop custom support plans by directly connecting students with campus and community resources based on their individual needs.<\/li>\n<li>Manage MESA Center and student employees.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with other STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) staff and faculty to develop, coordinate, and integrate activities for student success.<\/li>\n<li>Build and maintain relationships with internal campus partners across student affairs, academic and professional\/technical programs.<\/li>\n<li>Track individual student and partner follow-through with support plans, and exercise professional judgment in balancing student agency with advocacy on their behalf.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with data collection, compilation, and reporting on equity goals using information systems and software including ctcLink and Civitas.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge of resources for students (academic and non-academic) and serve as a primary point of contact for MESA students seeking help finding appropriate resources \u2013 e.g. tutoring, advising, counseling, financial aid, scholarships, internships, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Support planning and coordination of MESA Program events including but not limited to, university visits, quarterly professional panels, celebrations, conversations, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Organize, facilitate, and collaborate on workshops covering topics including but not limited to, study skills, time management, self-care, resumes, personal statements, interviews, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with student support services and campus resource providers to support the success of the program and its visibility on campus.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in community engagement events and TCC outreach activities.<\/li>\n<li>Perform other duties as assigned by the MESA Program Director.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt>Qualifications<\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor&#8217;s degree from an accredited college or university.<\/li>\n<li>One year of experience providing support services, advocacy, navigation, or closely related assistance to diverse and\/or non-traditional clients or students.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of culturally responsive professional practices in education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor&#8217;s degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of local community resources and services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Conditions of Employment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successful completion of a criminal history background check.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Successful Candidate will Demonstrate:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commitment to access, equity, and social justice.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to serving the needs of historically underserved populations including but not limited to low income populations, limited English speakers, and those experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse and other barriers to education and employment.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to the Tacoma Community College mission and vision.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to apply culturally responsive professional practices.<\/li>\n<li>Ethics, integrity and sound professional judgment.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff representing diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.<\/li>\n<li>High organizational and problem-solving abilities.
