The faculty therefore are committed to instruction at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to the pursuit of knowledge through research and service activities in the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences. CLAS is the largest academic unit at PSU, encompassing 26 academic departments, numerous programs, centers and institutes as well as a growing research portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Chemistry is a large department comprised of tenure-line, research, fixed-term and adjunct faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, research associates, and support staff. Departmental faculty maintain full teaching schedules as well as direct extensive research programs that are funded by a variety of government agencies and private foundations. As part of its teaching and research missions the Department also manages several state-of-the-art instrumentation core facilities that are utilized by both internal and external users. In addition to providing coursework leading to degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry the Department also offers supporting coursework for students majoring in the other sciences and engineering. For more information please CLICK HERE<\/p>\n<p>Position Summary<\/p>\n<p>The Chemistry Department Manager manages all aspects of the daily operations of the department, including supervision of other departmental administrative and laboratory support staff members (4.0 FTE total).<\/p>\n<p>The Chemistry Department Manager is responsible for overseeing a $4.8M budget, including accounts receivable for the Chemistry Stockroom, ensuring support for 19 full time faculty, and 30 Graduate Teaching Assistants as well as graduate admissions, and the hiring of department employees.<\/p>\n<p>This position reports to the Chair of the department, works closely with the fiscal staff in the Dean\u2019s Office, and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Fiscal Officer. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of managing financial resources, office space, staff and projects, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a high attention to detail and the ability to organize and prioritize their own work.<\/p>\n<p>This is an unclassified, unrepresented, exempt 1.0 FTE, 12 month appointment.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Minimum Qualifications<\/p>\n<p>This position requires a Bachelor\u2019s degree (or an equivalent combination of experience and education) and at least five years of experience in an office environment carrying out independent duties, working with budgets and spreadsheets, and overseeing the work of others.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Qualifications<\/p>\n<p>Familiar with enterprise-wide information systems, such as Banner.<\/p>\n<p>Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications; intermediate to advanced skill level with Excel; strong experience utilizing electronic communication such as email and listserves as well as the ability to seek information on the internet; familiar with networked file storage.<\/p>\n<p>Budgeting, financial management and\/or accounting\/bookkeeping skills.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrated attention to detail.<\/p>\n<p>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).<\/p>\n<p>Ability to organize and plan complex tasks that require many steps to complete.<\/p>\n<p>Ability to manage deadlines and deal with multiple tasks and priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Ability to work with diverse people and maintain a professional, collegial atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Supervision of front-line staff and\/or students.<\/p>\n<p>Self-motivated, able to work independently and make decisions that implement plans and procedures which move the department forward.<\/p>\n<p>High degree of responsiveness and respect toward others.<\/p>\n<p>Basic knowledge of web editing.<\/p>\n<p>Experience working in higher education.<\/p>\n<p>Key Cultural Competencies<\/p>\n<p>Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.<\/p>\n<p>Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Seek opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Adhere to all of PSU\u2019s policies including the policies on Prohibited Discrimination &amp; Harassment and the Professional Standards of Conduct.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Environmental Stewardship<\/p>\n<p>Contributes to a culture of environmental stewardship, practices resource conservation, and actively works toward achieving long-term sustainability goals.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Work Days\/Hours\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, schedule to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>Total Compensation Range &amp; Benefits Statement<\/p>\n<p>The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $56,800 \u2013 $67,450.
