We offer life changing service opportunities that engage Members at the intersection of environmentalism and social justice while promoting individual leadership and development. Applicants with disabilities may request a reasonable accommodation and\/or alternative formats at any point in the employment process.<\/p>\n<p>DATES OF SERVICE<br \/>\nSeptember 9, 2020 \u2013 July 30, 2021 (11 months \u2013 1700 hours)<\/p>\n<p>POSITION TITLE<br \/>\nOutreach and Riparian Specialist<\/p>\n<p>PROJECT PARTNER<br \/>\nJohnson Creek Watershed Council<br \/>\njcwc.org<\/p>\n<p>POSITION SUMMARY<br \/>\nThis position is a partnership between Confluence Environmental Center, AmeriCorps Program and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council. The Outreach &amp; Riparian Specialist will build on the successes of previous AmeriCorps Members in the following ways:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Restoration Projects (25%):<br \/>\n&#8211; Design, implement, and maintain riparian restoration projects along Johnson Creek and tributaries under the supervision of the JCWC Riparian Program Manager.<br \/>\n&#8211; Conduct creekside landowner outreach and recruitment for restoration work.<br \/>\n&#8211; Support workforce development and volunteer training efforts.<br \/>\n\u2022 Outreach Projects (50%):<br \/>\n&#8211; Initiate and lead educational activities with school groups.<br \/>\n&#8211; Support coordination of volunteer restoration events.<br \/>\n&#8211; Build partnerships with culturally-specific organizations and underrepresented community groups.<br \/>\n&#8211; Create and distribute outreach materials for upcoming events.<br \/>\n&#8211; Facilitate volunteer recruitment, communication, and volunteer database tracking.<br \/>\n&#8211; Recruit cohorts of watershed interns.<br \/>\n\u2022 Community Science (5%):<br \/>\n&#8211; Support wildlife survey projects and help plan and host educational community events.<\/p>\n<p>The Member will participate in Confluence led leadership development activities which include: Leadership Development Program, team meetings, National Service events and other self-directed development opportunities (20%).<\/p>\n<p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (to include, but not limited to):<br \/>\n\u2022 Serve with the JCWC Volunteer Program Manager to a) plan, recruit for, and coordinate volunteer events at sites identified for volunteer stewardship, occasionally in the evenings or on weekends; and b) recruit intern cohorts. This will include building partnerships with culturally specific organizations and underrepresented communities.<br \/>\n\u2022 Recruit, coordinate with, and lead school groups in service-learning projects; create curriculum for these as needed.<br \/>\n\u2022 Design, implement, and maintain riparian reforestation projects along Johnson Creek and tributaries, working with partners (Portland Parks and Recreation, City of Gresham, Wisdom of the Elders, AmeriCorps NCCC) as appropriate; conduct initial site assessments and develop planting, monitoring, and weed management plans; order plants and supplies; track and report results and expenditures. Conduct project monitoring and reporting at completed and ongoing restoration projects \u2013 e.g. photomonitoring, vegetation cover transects.<br \/>\n\u2022 Conduct outreach and recruit private landowners for restoration projects and be a technical resource and offer trainings for landowners with a goal of increasing landowner participation in long-term maintenance. This could include organizing landowner tours \/restoration showcases on private property to encourage peer-to-peer sharing \u2013 occasionally in the evenings or on weekends.<br \/>\n\u2022 Support social media and website maintenance.<br \/>\n\u2022 Manage the tool room, help maintain a clean office, attend meetings, respond to emails, etc.<\/p>\n<p>POSITION REQUIREMENTS<br \/>\n\u2022 Background (education or specific experience) in natural resource management, botany, river restoration, or a related field, ideally including familiarity with Johnson Creek Watershed flora (native and invasive) and Pacific Northwest restoration strategies and species.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience conducting educational activities with youth.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience with managing multiple projects\/tasks; ability to prioritize, meet multiple deadlines.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and to walk uneven terrain through adverse conditions (hot\/dry, cold\/wet).<br \/>\n\u2022 Computer Proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, photo downloading, basic file organization.<br \/>\n\u2022 Willingness\/openness to learn about and discuss racial equity and social justice issues.<br \/>\n\u2022 A cooperative manner and the ability to serve as part of a diverse team.<br \/>\n\u2022 AmeriCorps Members must be: 18 years of age or older; U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident; able to commit to the full term of service; able to successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check.<\/p>\n<p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience designing, installing, and maintaining riparian restoration projects.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience managing volunteers, youth work-crews, and\/or contractors.<br \/>\n\u2022 Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Chinese, or other language proficiency.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience working with low-income communities and\/or communities of color.<br \/>\n\u2022 Digital mapping experience, ideally in ArcGIS.<br \/>\n\u2022 Database management (Salesforce, Vertical Response, or similar).<br \/>\n\u2022 Familiarity with WordPress, social media, and\/or graphic design.<\/p>\n<p>MEMBER BENEFITS INCLUDE<br \/>\n\u2022 $14,279 living allowance paid over the 11-month term of service (approx. $1,298 monthly, before taxes).<br \/>\n\u2022 $6,195 education award (qualified student loans and\/or education expenses)<br \/>\n\u2022 Loan Forbearance<br \/>\n\u2022 Health Care Insurance<br \/>\n\u2022 Child Care Reimbursement<br \/>\n\u2022 $100 Training Fund<br \/>\n\u2022 Professional Leadership Certificate, Trainings and Networking opportunities.<br \/>\n\u2022 May be eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).<\/p>\n<p>ADDITIONAL BENEFITS PROVIDED BY JCWC<br \/>\n\u2022 Travel reimbursement for work-related transport, including regular commuting to and from our office (when\/if that<br \/>\nresumes)<br \/>\n\u2022 Reimbursement for work-related communications expenses (internet connection, cell phone)<br \/>\n\u2022 Up to $1,000 to put towards professional development<\/p>\n<p>PROJECT LOCATION &amp; TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION<br \/>\n\u2022 4033 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland OR 97202<br \/>\n\u2022 AmeriCorps Member will have access to Council vehicles for Council-related activity.<br \/>\n\u2022 AmeriCorps Member will be eligible for mileage reimbursement from the Council for use of Member\u2019s personal vehicle, as agreed upon by Council staff.<br \/>\n\u2022 Council office is located on or close to two bus lines (19 and 75)<\/p>\n<p>HOW TO APPLY<br \/>\nSTEP 1: Apply to Confluence:<br \/>\n\u2022 Complete AmeriCorps Application .
