\/>\nFULL-TIME\/NON-PERMANENT<br \/>\nSCIENTIFIC TECHNICIAN 2 (ST2)<\/p>\n<p>Lake Washington Watershed<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>Anticipated Appointment Length is 4 Months<br \/>\nAugust 31st, 2020 \u2013 December 25th, 2020<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is dedicated to preserving, protecting and perpetuating fish, wildlife and ecosystems, while providing sustainable recreational and commercial opportunities dependent on viable fish and wildlife populations.\u00a0 WDFW employees protect and restore critical habitat, strive to facilitate species recovery when necessary, and manage hundreds of fish and wildlife species.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Fish Program within the Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking to fill TWO (2) Scientific Technician 2 positions.\u00a0<\/b><b>We are seeking highly motivated and experienced field technicians<\/b><b>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/b><b>collect field data associated with adult salmon in the Lake Washington watershed<\/b><b>\u00a0while promoting\u00a0<\/b><b>the conservation of Washington State\u2019s salmonid populations.<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\nThe\u00a0<b>Scientific Technician 2\u00a0<\/b>contributes to the mission by providing the data needed to manage recreational and commercial fishing opportunities while ensuring the long-term conservation of salmon and steelhead populations and by contributing to the recovery of federal ESA listed anadromous stocks.<\/p>\n<p>Our ideal applicants will have a positive can-do attitude as they collect\/sample data.\u00a0 In addition, the candidate will share moment.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Duties<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<b>KEY DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct spawning area surveys and carcass surveys for adult salmon.<\/li>\n<li>Identify and count live adult salmon at the Ballard Locks.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately identify and count Chinook, Sockeye, and Coho salmon redds in Lake Washington tributary streams and at the Ballard Locks fish ladder viewing window.<\/li>\n<li>Walks streams and floats rivers on rafts to access and count salmon redds and carcasses.<\/li>\n<li>Take biological samples from salmon carcasses in the field.<\/li>\n<li>Explains research projects and sampling procedures to sport fishermen and members of the public to enlist cooperation and support for agency priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Reviews, records, and tabulates adult salmon redd, salmon count and carcass related data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This position requires the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, often outdoors in remote locations over rugged terrain.<\/li>\n<li>Work will involve walking and occasionally rafting in swift-water streams or rivers to survey salmon spawning areas.<\/li>\n<li>Work will occasionally occur during periods of inclement\/adverse weather.<\/li>\n<li>Attention to detail and good record keeping are required for accurate data recording.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Schedule:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40 hours per week and may include work on some weekend days and holidays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Tools and Equipment:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wading gear, hand tally clicker, safety harness, life preserver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Customer Interactions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some contact with sport anglers and members of the general public, including visitors to the Locks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Qualifications<b>Required Qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to research and gather information effectively.<\/li>\n<li>Correctly identifies, collects, organizes and documents count data.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to collects biological data from salmon carcasses.<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience identifying Pacific salmon and salmon redds.<\/li>\n<li>Consistently and accurately documents information and updates records\/databases.<\/li>\n<li>Understand basic computer operation with experience in Microsoft Excel and Word.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently with very little direct oversight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Preferred Qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working knowledge of salmon life history.<\/li>\n<li>Experience collecting biological samples from Pacific salmon or
