(OWN) is an educational nonprofit with over 15 years of experience providing language instruction, leadership development, and study abroad opportunities to primarily low-income youth of color in the Seattle area.<\/p>\n<p>As part of our yearlong Global Language &amp; Leadership Program, students can earn high school world language credit by studying Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, or Russian twice a week afterschool. They can also opt to participate in twice monthly Leadership workshops and apply to study abroad in South Korea, Morocco, or Russia.<\/p>\n<p>OneWorld Now!\u2019s vision is that all youth have access to transformative international education opportunities. To help ensure this, all OneWorld Now! programs are priced on a sliding scale based on family size and income.<\/p>\n<p>OneWorld Now! is committed to using a framework of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to support its youth, staff, and community and to consistently assess and improve its organizational structures programming.<\/p>\n<h5>About the Role<\/h5>\n<p>OneWorld Now! is seeking an energetic, organized, and dedicated individual to join our program staff as the Leadership Workshop Facilitator. As a part of our yearlong Global Language &amp; Leadership Program, Leadership workshops use the experiential learning cycle to build social, emotional and intercultural skills through a social justice lens. The Leadership Facilitator will collaborate with another staff member to develop curriculum and deliver workshops to groups of 15-20 youth 2-3 times per week.<\/p>\n<p>Note: This position is suitable for either an experienced facilitator interested in part-time work OR someone with other youth development experience who is interested in gaining experience with facilitation.<\/p>\n<h5>Main Responsibilities:<\/h5>\n<h6>\u25cf WORKSHOP DESIGN &amp; PLANNING<\/h6>\n<p>o Work collaboratively with staff and students to plan and prepare for Leadership workshops 2-3 times per week.<br \/>\no Update and design workshop curriculum taking into consideration OneWorld Now!\u2019s existing curriculum and other new resources that may be identified.<\/p>\n<h6>\u25cf WORKSHOP FACILITATION<\/h6>\n<p>o Lead and support workshop activities.<br \/>\no Develop, support, and counsel student peer mentors.<br \/>\no In an online setting this fall, we expect each session to include 15-20 youth. If health conditions allow for in-person sessions later in the year (e.g. if King County reaches Phase 4 of the Safe Start reopening plan), we expect the total number to be 35-50 youth.<br \/>\no Maintain student attendance records at each leadership session.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Other tasks as assigned.<\/p>\n<h5>Minimum Requirements:<\/h5>\n<p>\u25cf Experience facilitating workshops and trainings for high school students OR other relevant youth development experience.<br \/>\n\u25cf Experience designing workshops and\/or curricula OR desire to collaborate with other staff to develop skills in this area.<br \/>\n\u25cf Experience working with diverse groups of youth, and ability to forge strong, safe, trusting relationships with youth.<br \/>\n\u25cf Passionate commitment to racial, social, and economic justice; familiarity with or interest in frameworks of social justice education and anti-racism work.<br \/>\n\u25cf Sensitivity to and respect for diverse cultures and different communication styles.<br \/>\n\u25cf Team player and excellent communicator.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to work collaboratively and independently.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to effectively manage time.<\/p>\n<h5>Preferred Characteristics:<\/h5>\n<p>\u25cf Excellent role model for youth; demonstrated integrity and commitment; dynamic, engaging personality.<br \/>\n\u25cf Experience with or interest in youth civic engagement, advocacy, or community organizing.<br \/>\n\u25cf Strong organizational skills.<br \/>\n\u25cf Knowledge of OneWorld Now! target languages or cultures (Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, or Russian) and\/or languages commonly spoken in Seattle (e.g. Somali, Oromo, Vietnamese)<\/p>\n<p>Individuals who reflect and have strong ties within the diverse communities of Seattle are strongly encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<h5>Commitment<\/h5>\n<p>Average 8 to 10 hours per week during program operations. Leadership workshops are currently planned to take place twice a week on weekday afternoons after 4:30pm. Regular planning meetings with student peer mentors should also be anticipated, usually taking place on a weekday evening (5-6:30 pm) or on weekends when students are available. In addition, the Facilitator will be expected to join a 90-minute weekly all-staff meeting. Leadership workshops will initially all take place online; if health conditions allow in-person meetings to take place later in the year, they will be in a central location in Seattle.<\/p>\n<h5>Location<\/h5>\n<p>All staff are currently working and delivering programs remotely until further notice. This position will begin as a 100% remote position but may move to all or partially in-person if health conditions allow. Preference will be given to facilitators located in the greater Seattle area who would be able to work in-person on some programs if health conditions allow.<\/p>\n<h5>Hours and pay rate<\/h5>\n<p>Non-exempt, part-time hourly position. Suggested hourly rate is $30 \u2013 $35 DOE. Must be authorized to work in the United States; OneWorld Now! does not sponsor visa applications or petitions.<\/p>\n<h5>Initial deadline<\/h5>\n<p>August 7, 2020.
