WDFW employees protect and restore critical habitat, strive to facilitate species recovery when necessary, and manage hundreds of fish and wildlife species.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Wildlife Program, within the Department of Fish and Wildlife\u2019s Southwest Region is recruiting to fill a full-time, permanent Natural Resource Technician 2 position on the Cowlitz Wildlife Area. This opportunity is located in Lewis County.<\/b>\n<\/div>\n<div>The\u00a0<b>Natural Resource Technician 2<\/b>\u00a0will assist with conservation work on the Cowlitz Wildlife Area by facilitating public recreation (e.g., hiking, hunting, fishing, etc.), enhancing fish and wildlife habitats, and interacting with a diverse public.\u00a0The Cowlitz Wildlife Area consists of 14,217 acres of lands owned by Tacoma Power and managed by the WDFW as wildlife mitigation for the Cowlitz River Hydroelectric FERC Project.\u00a0 The vegetation on the Cowlitz Wildlife Area is as varied as its habitats ranging from emergent wetland, to riparian\/forested wetland, to coniferous forest and mixed deciduous forest.<\/p>\n<p>We are seeking applicants with a passion and dedication to promote the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) conservation mission on the Cowlitz Wildlife Area.\u00a0 Strong candidates will have a strong mechanical aptitude, applied experience in habitat management, forestry, farming, weed control, and equipment maintenance work, as well as a strong work ethic.\u00a0 Our ideal candidate will have the ability to take initiative, work independently, have excellent inter-personal communication and relationship skills.\u00a0 This position provides the opportunity to learn and apply land management principles in a practical setting.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Duties<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><b>KEY DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Performs technical duties to protect, maintain, and improve habitats, species, or recreational opportunities on the Wildlife Area.<\/li>\n<li>Maintains facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li>Performs integrated vegetation management activities to control invasive or unwanted species.<\/li>\n<li>Provides technical assistance in the development and implementation of Wildlife Area projects and activities.<\/li>\n<li>Implement activities to maintain and improve habitat, species and\/or recreational opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>Restore\/enhance\/maintain wildlife habitats.<\/li>\n<li>Create, manage and maintain moist soil management projects.<\/li>\n<li>Implement Integrated Vegetation Management activities<\/li>\n<li>Conduct agricultural and farming activities.<\/li>\n<li>Manage and maintain public recreational use opportunities and infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain Wildlife Area buildings, information kiosks and signage.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain roads, culverts, gates, fences, parking lots and other capital improvements.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain wildlife area vehicles, equipment and maintenance records.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor, assess and assure safety of Wildlife Area facilities and equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/b>\u00a0Inclement weather, including extreme heat or snow, over difficult terrain, including slippery rocks, steep banks and sticky mud up to 80% of the time.\u00a0 Ability to walk, bend and stoop while at times carrying up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain.\u00a0 Must be able to perform tasks in a safe, accurate and efficient manner and must be able to accept supervision\/correction.<\/li>\n<li><b>Schedule:<\/b>\u00a0Normal workweek is Monday &#8211; Friday 8 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m., however, candidate must have the willingness and ability to work long irregular hours and work on non-scheduled workweeks.<\/li>\n<li><b>Travel Requirements:<\/b>\u00a0Travel can be up to 10% of the time.<\/li>\n<li><b>Tools and Equipment:<\/b>\u00a0Boats, motor vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, tractors with agricultural implements, farm machinery, small power equipment (i.e. tillers, mowers, chainsaws and grass\/brush trimmers, etc.), shop equipment, and ATV\u2019s in field situations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications<b>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Education:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High School Graduation or GED.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Knowledge of:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basics of carpentry, mechanical and facility repair.<\/li>\n<li>Small and large equipment troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.<\/li>\n<li>Equipment operation.<\/li>\n<li>Personal computers.<\/li>\n<li>Managing projects.<\/li>\n<li>Managing workloads.<\/li>\n<li>Safety procedures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Ability to:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Repair and maintain buildings, fences, facilities, and equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Observe, inspect, and problem solve.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate and organize activities.<\/li>\n<li>Effectively communicate verbally and orally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Behavioral Competencies:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creative and innovative thinking.<\/li>\n<li>Communication effectiveness.<\/li>\n<li>Ethics and integrity.<\/li>\n<li>Judgment.<\/li>\n<li>Adaptability and flexibility.<\/li>\n<li>Accountability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Licenses &amp;
