This program provides rebates for the installation of rain gardens and cisterns on private properties to reduce the number of combined sewer overflows in SPU-prioritized neighborhoods. The intern will support a variety of program aspects, generally focused on outreach and education, including, but not limited to, the following: increasing equitable and racially diverse customer participation, recruitment of new customers, community event-based RainWise outreach, RainWise 101 workshops, administrative management and participation in the regional Green Infrastructure Partnership, and survey analysis of customer input.<\/p>\n<p>The internship is projected to start in late-June and will last for up to six (6) months or graduation, whichever comes first. This\u00a0<strong>internship will require occasional weekend and evening work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning objectives\u00a0<\/strong>include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Draft and implement communications and public engagement strategies for RainWise projects and programs.<\/li>\n<li>Craft and implement strategies to improve internal and external stakeholder engagement.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate with SPU Communications team as a liaison for program.<\/li>\n<li>Develop business writing and editing skills within a utility setting.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with outreach to underserved communities.<\/li>\n<li>Learn about Green Stormwater Infrastructure programs and technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Job ResponsibilitiesThe intern will work with professionals in activities such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with community outreach strategies and tactics, including drafting letters, leading presentations, planning events, notices, press releases, survey analysis, data management, and disseminating information.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the production of marketing materials for community meetings\/events and represent SPU at meetings and\/or events.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the development of internal communications and social media.<\/li>\n<li>Perform other administrative duties as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications<strong>Education:\u00a0<\/strong>Applicants must be\u00a0<u>currently enrolled\u00a0<\/u>pursuing a Graduate degree in Environmental Studies,\u00a0Business, Communications,\u00a0Public Administration,\u00a0Urban Planning, Political Science, English, Marketing\u00a0or closely related field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Students\u00a0<\/strong>must be currently enrolled on a part-time or full-time basis for the duration of the internship. Students are not required to be enrolled during the summer. Graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.\u00a0 Verification of applicant enrollment is required at time of application by providing a current\u00a0unofficial transcript.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Licensing:\u00a0<\/strong>A Washington State driver&#8217;s license is required in order to operate a City vehicle to travel to outreach events, community meetingsAdditional Information<strong>Hours:\u00a0<\/strong>During school sessions, work hours will be scheduled to complement class schedules (15-20 hours per week). The internship opportunity may permit up to 40 hours per week during breaks and summer months.
