find out more about us and the important work we are a part of at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wdfw.wa.gov\/\"><strong>www.wdfw.wa.gov<\/strong><\/a>.\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>We are seeking one (1) highly motivated and experienced field Career Seasonal Scientific Technician 2 to work alongside a diverse team promoting the conservation of Washington State&#8217;s salmonid population.\u00a0 This opportunity is located in Clark County and the anticipated appointment length is 5-months.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This recruitment is for one (1) 5-month Career Seasonal Scientific Technician 2 position in the Fish Program.\u00a0 The duty station is the Region 5 Office located at 5525 S 11th Street, Ridgefield, WA. 98642 and the usual season is from April through October.\n<\/div>\n<div>Our ideal applicants will have a positive can-do attitude as they collect\/sample data.\u00a0 In addition, the candidate will share our values of trust, respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and is eager to work hard and have fun in an environment where there&#8217;s never a dull moment.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Northern Pikeminnow Sport-Reward Fishery Program (NPSRF) has removed more than 4.8 million Northern Pikeminnow from the Columbia River System where they are the primary piscine predator of juvenile salmonids.\u00a0 As a result of the NPSRF, predation on juvenile salmonids has been reduced by up to 40% from pre-program levels.\u00a0 This position oversees two or more NPSRF registration stations under the general supervision of a Fish and Wildlife Biologist 2.\u00a0 The Scientific Technician 2 provides quality control for Fishery field data collected by themselves and other technicians while working assigned locations.<\/div>\n<p>Duties<strong>Set up and staff mobile field registration stations as part of implementation of the Northern Pikeminnow Sport-Reward Fishery Program.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong>Fills out, completes, and files daily angler registration forms.\u00a0 Conducts angler exit creel surveys to determine Northern Pikeminnow eligibility and to record other angler catch.\u00a0 Completes and issues angler pay vouchers.\u00a0 Collects and records biological data from all Northern Pikeminnow and other fishes kept.\u00a0 Examines all Northern Pikeminnow for spaghetti or other external tags.\u00a0 Ensures that program rules and regulations are consistently applied to all participants.\u00a0 Proofs and is responsible for data accuracy, completeness and quality.\u00a0 Organizes field vehicle and\/or office, and stocks\/maintains appropriate supplies for field operations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Individually scans all eligible Northern Pikeminnow with PIT tag reader for recovery of PIT tags from consumed juvenile salmonids and select Northern Pikeminnow.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Accurately records PIT tag data, proofs data log book and reports all tag recoveries.\u00a0 Processes fish with PIT tags per program protocols and assists with fish dissection and tag recovery as directed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Informs the public and provides general information about participation in the Northern Pikeminnow Sport-Reward Fishery.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Explains and describes relevant angling regulations, fishing techniques, when, where and how to catch Northern Pikeminnow.\u00a0 Provides year to date harvest and effort totals by registration station as well as historical peak harvest information.\u00a0 Provides and\/or explains angler resources on these topics along with how and where to get useful information.\u00a0 Answers angler and\/or public questions and otherwise promotes the program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsible for operating, cleaning and maintaining program equipment as needed at registration stations and at field offices.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Maintain clean work area, clean work vehicle, walk-in cooler area.\u00a0 Clean all ice chests, freezers, biological sampling equipment, ice jugs, program vehicles, and other equipment.\u00a0 Responsible for maintaining program equipment and arranging for timely repair or replacement of equipment as needed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other duties as assigned<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tasks include:\u00a0<\/strong>Other duties as assigned by supervising biologist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Working conditions<\/strong><br \/>\nWork is performed outdoors 85% of the day, often in remote locations and in inclement weather during days, evenings and nights, including weekends and holidays throughout the field season.
