WDFW employees protect and restore critical habitat, strive to facilitate species recovery when necessary, and manage hundreds of fish and wildlife species.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Wildlife Program, Lands Division within the Department of Fish and Wildlife is recruiting to fill two (2) full-time, non-permanent Natural Resource Technician 2 positions. These opportunities are located on the<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Skagit Wildlife Area which includes over 16,000 acres and 18 distinct units in Skagit, Snohomish, Island and San Juan Counties. The anticipated appointment length is 4\u00bd months, June &#8211; October.<\/strong>\n<\/div>\n<div>The\u00a0<strong>Natural Resource Technician 2\u00a0<\/strong>provides technical support to Biologists and conducts Spartina (an estuarine, invasive grass) eradication and invasive cattail control through the implementation of integrated pest management (IPM).\u00a0 The\u00a0<strong>Natural Resource Technician 2<\/strong>\u00a0position supports the agency&#8217;s mission by directly addressing the sound stewardship of fish and wildlife resources by implementing wildlife habitat improvement through weed control and land management activities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We are seeking applicants that can effectively participate in and lead a small team and plan\/work independently while safely and efficiently operating equipment and tools.\u00a0 Our ideal candidates are hard-working, respectful, innovative and motivated.\u00a0 In addition to being accountable and adaptable, we are seeking candidates that have basic knowledge of applying herbicides and operating motor vehicles such as ATV&#8217;s, boats and swamp buggies.<\/div>\n<p>Duties<strong>KEY DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leading a small team to conduct weed control using an integrated weed management approach.<\/li>\n<li>Implementing existing vegetation management programs to enhance habitat.<\/li>\n<li>Implementing integrated pest management (IPM) principles to manage invasive vegetation using pesticides, planting of competing vegetation, spray equipment and mowing\/digging equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Conducting Spartina eradication<\/li>\n<li>Marking Spartina locations using GPS and recording the data.<\/li>\n<li>Remove Spartina seedlings and small clones by hand.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct vegetation sampling.<\/li>\n<li>Operate chemical application equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Perform routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct cattail and other weed control projects as directed.<\/li>\n<li>Based on gathered data and field experience recommends changes to improve outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\u00a0Much of the work will be performed in the intertidal regions of Washington in all weather conditions.\u00a0 This position works in remote field locations approximately 75% of the time.\u00a0 The employee must be willing and able to walk over difficult terrain, including slippery rocks, steep banks, and mud.\u00a0 The employee must be able to bend, stoop, while at times carrying up to 40 pounds and load and transport gear.\u00a0 The employee must also be willing to work with pesticides.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\u00a0 Monday \u2013 Friday, 40 hours\/week.\u00a0 Start times are set by the best available tides and may require early morning starts.\u00a0 Some mandatory overtime on weekends may be required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\u00a0Some projects in other areas of the state require occasional weekend and overnight travel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\u00a0Operate, maintain, perform repairs and preventative maintenance on small mechanical equipment such as brush cutters, chemical application equipment, specialized vehicles such as a trucks, swamp buggies, airboats and all-terrain vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications<strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school\/GED\u00a0<strong>AND<\/strong>\u00a0one year of natural resource related labor experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OR<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduation from high school\/GED<strong>\u00a0AND\u00a0<\/strong>one year as a Natural Resource Worker 1.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Licenses &amp; Certifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid Driver&#8217;s License<\/li>\n<li>Candidates will be required to obtain one or more specialized skill qualifications or licenses, including but not limited to:\n<ul>\n<li>First Aid Training Certification<\/li>\n<li>Public Pesticide Applicators License with an aquatic and turf &amp;
