It also utilizes appropriate policy development methods to ensure rules are consistent with the Administrative Procedures Act, other applicable state and federal laws, and ensures consistency with Department and program objectives.<\/p>\n This recruitment is for a full-time non-permanent, Environmental Planner within the EPH, Office of the Assistant Secretary. The anticipated duration of this position is twelve (12) months from the date of hire.<\/p>\n Apply early! The review will be on-going.<\/em><\/p>\n The EPH, Office of the Assistant Secretary’s mission is to support the Department’s mission by working with local governments and state and federal agencies on public health matters for public drinking water facilities, food safety, shellfish protection, radiation safety, wastewater management facilities, pesticide exposures, vector borne diseases, general environmental public health and safety, and health risk assessments.<\/p>\n The Office of the Assistant Secretary provides support for strategic planning, environmental epidemiology and toxicology, legislative and policy development and assessment, information management support, budget and financial management, performance management, and external communications via the internet.\n<\/p><\/div>\n About the Department of Health<\/strong> Benefits of Working for DOH<\/strong> Tumwater is a vibrant city just south of Olympia, the state’s capital, with a small-town feel conveniently situated between Seattle and Portland. Tumwater enjoys the benefits of an engaged and educated community and a well-supported school system, with two universities and a community college within a ten-mile radius.<\/p>\n We also offer<\/em>:<\/p>\n Duties Include<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Working with internal staff to inform policy decisions.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Collaborating with external stakeholders including state agencies, federal agencies, and local governments to develop new and amend existing environmental public health regulations.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Providing consultation, project management, and evaluation of regulation development activities for environmental public health programs in EPH.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Using data driven decision-making principles to analyze appropriate policy and regulatory options.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Assisting program staff and consulting with agency economist in developing required economic cost\/benefit analysis.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Analyzing the cost impacts of new and amended rules affecting external stakeholders to create the least burdensome regulations.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Developing economic data through surveying external stakeholders, existing data, and peer-reviewed literature research, in consultation with program staff and the agency economist.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Providing mentoring and training to members of the rule development team and program staff regarding rule processes and analyses.<\/p>\n What we’re looking for<\/strong> Required Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Option 1:<\/strong>\u00a0A Bachelor’s degree or higher in public health, environmental planning, public or business administration or an allied field; and two (2) or more years of experience in at least one (1) of the following areas:<\/p>\n o\u00a0Providing professional consultation or project management in an environmental health public health or planning program, or closely allied field.<\/p>\n o\u00a0Policy development, rule writing, rule adoption and implementation; or<\/p>\n o\u00a0The legislative processes such as coordinating bill analysis, analyzing legislation, fiscal impacts, and making recommendations for consideration by a state agency.<\/p>\n OR<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Option 2:<\/strong>\u00a0Four (4) or more years of experience in one (1) or more of the areas listed in Option 1.<\/p>\n Desired Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0A Master’s degree in public health, environmental planning, public or business administration or an allied field.<\/p>\n Application Process<\/strong> 1.\u00a0A\u00a0letter of interest<\/strong>, describing how you meet the specific required qualifications for this position.
