It works independently part of the time, but has regular interaction with foresters, forest engineers, other natural resource professionals as well as other agency\/organization members and the public. It has split responsibilities within the Presales program between timber sales layout and compliance. During timber sales layout it is responsible for the field design of timber sale proposals including harvest unit design, initial road location, and selection of harvest methods. Work includes the completion of presales documentation packets, containing maps, informational reports and environmental documents. It also serves as a contract administrator for DNR timber sales and road plan contracts. It must respond to public and other agency requests relative to state lands management within the district.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What we will trust you with:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Valuing others, creating a positive work environment that allows each employee to teach others through trust, inclusiveness and equity.<\/li>\n<li>Personal Accountability.<\/li>\n<li>Compassionate Communication.<\/li>\n<li>Inspiring Others.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to Excellence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<strong><u>Who are we looking for?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Natural Resource Specialist 1 (NRS2- In-Training) candidate has:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of all laws, policies, and practices related to timber sales program.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of timber and land management planning and practices.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of timber sales contract, preparation, and administration.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of theory, policy, principles and practices of the forestry profession as applied to Northwestern United States (i.e., fundamentals of:\u00a0silviculture\u00a0of Northwest species, markets and economics, cruising methods, sales layout, logging methods, engineering, plant nutrition, propagation and weed control, reforestation and intensive forest practices, recreation, multiple use, inventory, water quality, watershed management and basic principles of fisheries management).<\/li>\n<li>Written and verbal communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>The incumbent in this position is required to travel.<\/li>\n<li>Must have a valid driver&#8217;s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function.\u00a0 Employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy\u00a0PO02-006\u00a0and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements. Finalists and\/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Natural Resource Specialist 2 candidate will meet the NRS1\u00a0required qualifications in addition to the qualifications below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One year of professional forestry experience.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with forest management objectives and timber management planning.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with current forest management plans and associated agency policies and rules.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with timber sales contract preparation and administration.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of current forest practices rules, forestry laws and practices.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of logging and forest road construction equipment and use.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitation and negotiation skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This may be filled as an in-training. The training plan is up to 24 months. If you complete all elements of the training steps in a shorter amount of time, we may waive the remainder of the time required.
