Our mission is to provide outstanding naturebased education experiences that are rooted in science and nurture the next generation of environmental stewards and leaders. We are looking for skilled educators to continue the development of an exceptional environmental education program with one of the nation\u2019s iconic National Parks.<\/p>\n<p>Environmental Education Instructors lead youth and adults through inquiry\u2010based field science investigations and teach a variety of topics such as climate change, natural history, geology, forestry, resource management, and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest. EE Instructors have the opportunity for professional growth through the development of their naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the ongoing development of a relatively new residential environmental education program.<\/p>\n<p>Term of Position: Spring 2020 season starts late March through early June. May involve weekend and evening hours.<\/p>\n<p>Shared housing will be provided for a modest monthly rental fee.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Rainier Institute is committed to diversity. We welcome qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, color, sexual orientation, or gender.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Lead students grades 3\u201012 (mostly upper middle school) through Mount Rainier Institute\u2019s multi\u2010day experiential learning programs focusing on inquiry\u2010based field science investigations and the natural and cultural history of the Mount Rainier region.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Cultivate a positive, inclusive, multi\u2010cultural, student\u2010centered learning environment that inspires community development, scientific and environmental literacy, and a sense of place.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Assist in the design of customized environmental and science education programs based on the needs of each school group and the Mount Rainier Institute programmatic framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Attend training and regularly scheduled staff meetings and positively contribute to the staff community.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ensure the safety and well\u2010being of program participants.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Conduct evening and weekend programs as needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Assist in the maintenance of all program supplies, equipment, and facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Assist with other duties as required.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>REQUIREMENTS:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 BA\/BS in Education, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, Resource Interpretation, Natural Resources, Outdoor or Environmental Education, Biology, multi\u2010disciplinary studies or related field<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One or two years of relevant teaching experience, preferably outdoor.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Working knowledge of inquiry\u2010based scientific field study techniques<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and hike several miles at elevation<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Great independent worker and team player<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Current First Aid and CPR certification<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DESIRED:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Extensive experience in classroom teaching, outdoor environmental education, residential environmental learning centers, national parks, or nature centers<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Wilderness First Responder certification<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Knowledge of the natural history of the Pacific Northwest<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to speak Spanish<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>COMPENSATION:<\/p>\n<p>$21.17 per hour.
