{"id":32126,"date":"2020-03-04T14:26:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T22:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=32126"},"modified":"2020-03-04T14:26:40","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T22:26:40","slug":"internship-urban-refuge-community-workforce-intern-program-coordinator-student-conservation-association-us-fish-and-wildlife-service-portland-or","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/internship-urban-refuge-community-workforce-intern-program-coordinator-student-conservation-association-us-fish-and-wildlife-service-portland-or\/","title":{"rendered":"Internship: Urban Refuge\/Community Workforce Intern Program Coordinator, Student Conservation Association\/ US Fish and Wildlife Service (Portland, OR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-actual-dates field--type-datetime field--label-above\">\n<div class=\"field__label\">Expected Dates<\/div>\n<div class=\"item even\"><span class=\"date-display-range\"><span class=\"date-display-start\">April 13, 2020<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<span class=\"date-display-end\">September 27, 2020<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-partner-name field--type-text field--label-above\">\n<div class=\"field__label\">Site<\/div>\n<div class=\"item even\">Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-position-id field--type-text field--label-above\">\n<div class=\"field__label\">Position ID<\/div>\n<div class=\"item even\">PO-00728821<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"item even\">\n<div class=\"main-desc\">Intern Program Coordinator to support the development and launch of a collaborative approach to youth employment in Portland-Vancouver.\u00a0 The Refuge System seeks to engage and inspire people who live in urban areas to become part of a conservation constituency, so that together we can leave a legacy of abundant and healthy wildlife and wild lands for future generations of Americans to enjoy. \u00a0The Program Coordinator will play a key role in creating meaningful nature-based internship\/employment opportunities (on wildlife refuges and in communities) for diverse and underserved local youth on their paths to becoming future conservation leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Major duties include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinating communication between national wildlife refuge staff and inaugural youth employment partners (Student Conservation Association and Hispanic Access Foundation) to collaboratively design\u00a0program<\/li>\n<li>Communicating with target communities and partners (e.g. LatinX, Indigenous, people with disabilities) to determine needs and interests of local\u00a0youth<\/li>\n<li>Developing program framework and\u00a0guidance<\/li>\n<li>Developing position descriptions that tie community conservation efforts with local national wildlife\u00a0refuges<\/li>\n<li>Developing recruitment tools, onboarding processes, training materials and mentorship\u00a0strategies<\/li>\n<li>Assisting with recruitment and support of youth\u00a0interns<\/li>\n<li>Creating reports, keeping records, coordinating with staff and\u00a0and\u00a0partners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As we build our efforts to deepen relationships of underserved populations and be a community asset, we are seeking applicants who can help us achieve an inclusive youth internship program.\u00a0\u00a0The ideal candidate would\u00a0have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>strong communication and\u00a0organizational\u00a0skills<\/li>\n<li>ability to work independently and as part of a\u00a0team<\/li>\n<li>a passion for connecting people with\u00a0nature<\/li>\n<li>a desire to take on a leadership\u00a0role<\/li>\n<li>experience\u00a0working with diverse communities, especially within the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan\u00a0area<\/li>\n<li>ability to speak\u00a0Spanish<\/li>\n<li>a minimum of a bachelor\u2019s\u00a0degree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other\u00a0info:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The position requires a minimum of 32 hours per\u00a0week.<\/li>\n<li>The position requires a valid driver\u2019s license, intermittent weekend or evening work.<\/li>\n<li>While on duty, a government vehicle may be provided.\u00a0 Public transportation fares can be reimbursed for on-duty\u00a0travel.<\/li>\n<li>The position will support the work of the USFWS throughout the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area.
