We are the public\u2019s voice for zero waste. We envision a just and sustainable world where society responsibly produces, consumes and recycles. We use three main strategies to achieve our mission: advocating policy changes for products and materials at the local, regional, and state levels; engaging residents in driving system changes; and implementing pilot projects to demonstrate that the desired change is possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4 ft2\">Position Overview<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5 ft3\">Zero Waste Washington seeks a\u00a0<span class=\"ft4\">Community Outreach Associate\u00a0<\/span>with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates for this position will require the capacity to work\u00a0one-on-one\u00a0with community members and small business owners, implement critical communications plan, help develop and implement community education events and activities, and work with partner organizations and community groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p6 ft3\">Zero Waste Washington is seeking an individual with strong analytical,\u00a0decision-making,\u00a0creative, interpersonal, organizational, and communication (written, verbal, visual) skills, and who has a demonstrated commitment to both racial and social equity and environmental stewardship. Qualified applicants must have the ability to be flexible, handle multiple assignments at one time, work well with people, and be available for activities that include occasional nights and weekends. This position is based in Burien, WA. This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic,\u00a0inter-disciplinary,\u00a0and innovative environment to build a more sustainable and equitable future for communities in Washington State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft5\">Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Work in a team to conduct outreach and work with community members and small businesses;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Assess community conditions to inform education and outreach opportunities and develop outreach plans;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Facilitate relationships and conduct meetings;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Collaborate with local community leaders and organization partners to plan activities and events;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10 ft3\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft8\">Design and implement engaging communication and educational tools (such as displays, factsheets, online materials);<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p11 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Assist in research and development of a new program;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p12 ft3\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft8\">Measure, track, and report progress to determine success of efforts and adjust strategies based on emerging findings;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p11 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Establish and maintain individual and organizational relationships;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Recruit and supervise the work of interns and volunteers as necessary;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p13 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Conduct other tasks as assigned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2 ft5\">Qualifications:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p14 ft3\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft8\">One or more years of experience working in education or outreach to community members (including projects conducted while in school);<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p11 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Experience leading or\u00a0<\/span>co-leading\u00a0a program or project to completion in a\u00a0fast-paced\u00a0environment;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p13 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Experience working on a small team or independently as well as working with partners;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p15 ft3\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft8\">Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort with public speaking; ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"page_2\">\n<p class=\"p16 ft10\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft9\">Proven record of inclusive engagement; demonstrated competency working with diverse cultures; ability to build trust and create authentic relationships with a diverse range of people; ability to deal respectfully and constructively with people of divergent opinions;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p17 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Demonstrated history of entrepreneurial work ethic;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p18 ft12\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft11\">Bilingual (Vietnamese or Spanish \/ English) fluency highly preferred [** languages representing WA demographics]; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p17 ft5\"><span class=\"ft6\">\u2022<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Preference will be given to residents of Burien, but it is not a requirement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft2\">Project Location, Salary and Benefits<\/p>\n<p class=\"p19 ft3\">This\u00a0part-time\u00a0or\u00a0full-time\u00a0job (20 to\u00a040-hour\u00a0per week) position is based in Burien although travel to Seattle is anticipated on a\u00a0semi-regular\u00a0basis. Hourly compensation is between $15 and $18\/hour commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical stipend and sick and paid vacation leave.
