The Position:<\/p>\n
Olympic Hiking Co. provides guided hiking tours throughout Olympic National Park. Each year, we hire a small team of naturalist hiking guides to lead these guided tours and manage our\u00a0fast-paced\u00a0tour schedule. This summer, we are looking to add a\u00a0Seattle-based\u00a0Naturalist Hiking Guide to lead our full- day Seattle to Olympic National Park Guided Hiking Tours and\u00a0Seattle-based\u00a0private tours upon request. Our guides lead a\u00a0multi-faceted\u00a0tour experience that overviews the ecology and history of the Olympic Peninsula, while creating a personable and interactive group environment for our guests.<\/p>\n
What to Expect:<\/p>\n
Our\u00a0Seattle-based\u00a0Naturalist Hiking Guide will be scheduled for our Saturday and Sunday\u00a0full-day\u00a0group hiking tours from Seattle to Olympic National Park throughout the summer, including holidays. It is approximately an 11 hour shift, which will include\u00a04-5\u00a0hours of driving,\u00a03-4\u00a0hours of hiking (up to 6 miles), and roundtrip ferry travel with the group. Our guides need to be confident leading a tour and fielding questions about the ecology of Olympic National Park\u2019s mountains, rain forest, and coast.<\/p>\n
The Details:<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/span>Pay:<\/span>\u00a0$15 per hour plus gratuities<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Hours:<\/span>\u00a0Typically 22 hours per week, with potential of up to\u00a033-40\u00a0hours on occasion<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Location:<\/span>\u00a0Seattle, WA (tour starting\/ending location Downtown Seattle Ferry Terminal)<\/p>\n Responsibilities:<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Driving:<\/span>\u00a0you will drive a large 12\/15 passenger tour van from Bainbridge Island to Olympic National Park roundtrip with about\u00a04-5\u00a0hours of drive time and up to 200 miles.<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Presenting:<\/span>\u00a0you will deliver a verbal presentation about Olympic National Park\u2019s ecology and history throughout our driving tour and during an interactive group hike.<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Hiking:<\/span>\u00a0you will typically lead a guided hike of\u00a04-6\u00a0miles on one or more hiking trails during the\u00a0full-day\u00a0tour, while managing the group\u2019s safety and morale.<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Logistics:<\/span>\u00a0you will coordinate passenger\u00a0check-in,\u00a0daily picnic orders, bookings on various sales channels, group messaging, emails, a\u00a0fast-paced\u00a0tour schedule, and tour headcounts.<\/p>\n Minimum Requirements:<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Willing and able to work weekends, holidays, and\u00a0<\/span>ad-hoc\u00a0private tour requests<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Clean driving record and confidence to drive a 12\/15 passenger van up to 200 miles per day<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Physically able to hike up to 8 miles per day with previous hiking and outdoor experience<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>First Aid\/CPR Certification prior to start date, Wilderness First Aid or Responder preferred<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Must be at least 21 years of age or older<\/span><\/p>\n An Ideal Candidate\u2019s Background:<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Strong knowledge of Pacific Northwest ecology, environmental science, and natural history<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Previous experience as tour guide, outdoor education, or other tourism\/hospitality roles<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Proven track record for a\u00a0<\/span>fast-paced,\u00a0interactive environment with an attention to detail<\/p>\n \u2022<\/span>Confident in public speaking, managing diverse groups, and exchanging personal experiences<\/span><\/p>\n Who are We?<\/p>\n Olympic Hiking Co. is a commercially authorized tour company for guided hiking tours and trailhead shuttles in Olympic National Park.
