Hood National Forest. We work to monitor the activities of the U.S. Forest Service in order to prevent unnecessary environmental degradation, and advocate for redefining the role of forests as a solution to challenges presented by issues such as global climate change and social inequality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scope of Work:<\/strong>\u00a0The contractor is responsible for assisting Bark\u2019s Forest Watch Coordinator in planning and implementing field work focused on, but not limited to, Bark\u2019s ecological restoration activities in Mt. Hood National Forest and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bark-out.org\/content\/groundtruthing\">groundtruthing<\/a>\u00a0activities in proposed logging projects. They will also assist in effectively organizing Bark\u2019s groundtruthing information for use in Bark\u2019s outreach and legal advocacy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The contractor\u2019s responsibilities will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Coordinating Field Work\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bark-out.org\/content\/beaver-habitat-survey-and-restoration\">beaver habitat survey and restoration project<\/a>\u00a0activities and ensure effective information transfer between volunteers, students, and Forest Watch Coordinator.<\/li>\n<li>Provide training in data collection protocol, including groundtruthing and beaver habitat surveys, independently from Forest Watch Coordinator, for volunteers and students.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure maintenance of project data including project maps, photographs taken in the field, and data sheets.<\/li>\n<li>Synthesize field data for use by Forest Watch Coordinator in correspondence with U.S. Forest Service and in Bark\u2019s outreach and fundraising activities.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate other monitoring (i.e. groundtruthing, post-logging monitoring) activities as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Work with Forest Watch Coordinator to improve Bark\u2019s data collection and organization systems, and volunteer coordination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Trainings, Hikes and Other Events\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend and assist, as needed, with the following\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bark-out.org\/content\/rad%E2%97%A6i%E2%97%A6cle-activist-training\">Radicle<\/a>\u00a0trainings: Groundtruthing 101 &amp; 201, Hike Leader Training, and Forest First Aid.<\/li>\n<li>Lead one summer groundtruthing training.<\/li>\n<li>Present or co-present at one of Bark\u2019s Monthly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bark-out.org\/content\/ecology-club\">Ecology Club<\/a>\u00a0events.<\/li>\n<li>Co-lead one of Bark\u2019s Monthly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bark-out.org\/content\/second-sunday-bark-abouts\">Bark-About<\/a>\u00a0hikes.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in coordinating\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bark-out.org\/basecamp\">Base Camp<\/a>, Bark\u2019s two-week, late summer camp-out.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in coordinating one non-Base Camp weekend campout during the summer of 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Miscellaneous\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend Bark staff and volunteer committee meetings as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Work with Forest Watch Coordinator to implement a clear &amp; realistic to-do list and weekly work schedule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Budget<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The total budget for this scope of work is $13,000.00 plus approved mileage reimbursement. No other benefits offered at this time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposal Evaluation Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All accepted proposals with be reviewed by the Selection Committee and will be evaluated using the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrated recognition of the dynamics of social privilege associated with race, gender, class, age, ability, education-level and other characteristics and of the importance of addressing these proactively to promote equitable, just, and inclusive resolution to conflict.<\/li>\n<li>A demonstrated capability to conduct one\u2019s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and\/or with difficult situations.<\/li>\n<li>A demonstrated capability to safely lead volunteers in hiking on- and off-trail, often in rugged terrain.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with or knowledge of data collection principles and evaluation techniques related to field ecology.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in basic computer applications, such as email, listserv\/google group\/drive management, word\u00a0processing,\u00a0spreadsheets,\u00a0and internet usage.\u00a0\u00a0Experience with Esri programs or Avenza maps is also preferred but not required.<\/li>\n<li>A demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, as well as strong time management and organizational skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment; reliably meeting deadlines and expectations with little direct supervision.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with or desire to learn fundamentals of Pacific Northwest ecosystems.<\/li>\n<li>Possession of an Oregon driver\u2019s license.<\/li>\n<li>Previous first aid training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project Timeline and Scheduling\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contractor\u2019s work will include at least two weekend field days each month.<\/li>\n<li>Contractor must be available for special events (including campouts) and trainings.<\/li>\n<li>Contractor must be willing to adjust their schedule to accommodate the needs of the job.<\/li>\n<li>Contractor should expect to work mostly part-time, approximately 25hrs\/week, on average.<\/li>\n<li>Contractor must be available to begin work April 1st, 2020 and end work on October 28th, 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Contractor Selection Timeline<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>RFP Release: February 19th, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Proposals Due: March 15th, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Proposals Reviewed: Week of March 16th, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Consultant Selected: March 20th, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Start date of work: April 1st, 2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Equity:<\/strong>\u00a0Bark is engaged in a multi-year process to identify inequity in our work, organizational culture, and grow as individuals with unique experiences of exposure to and perpetuation of systemic oppression.
