About the Organization<\/p>\n
Seattle Audubon leads a local community in appreciating, understanding, and protecting birds and their habitats. Seattle Audubon is Washington State\u2019s oldest environmental conservation organization and recently celebrated its 100th\u00a0<\/span>anniversary. We maintain a current staff of 14 and reach a local membership base of approximately 2,800 households. Our strategic plan,\u00a0Seattle Audubon 20\/20: Sharpening our Focus<\/span>, has articulated growth in all program areas \u2013 environmental education, community science, urban habitat conservation, and coalition building and engagement.<\/p>\n Position Purpose<\/p>\n<\/td>\n Deliver\u00a0top-notch\u00a0early childhood educational programs for youth through Nature Day<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n Camps while supporting and promoting the mission of Seattle Audubon.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n Location of Work<\/p>\n<\/td>\n Magnuson Park in Northeast Seattle and\/or Explorer West Middle School in West Seattle,<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n with possible weekly travel to\u00a0Seattle-area\u00a0field trip sites selected by Seattle Audubon<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n (transportation provided). Meetings and\/or training may be held at the Seattle Audubon<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n office, 8050 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n Qualifications<\/p>\n<\/td>\n Requires BA\/BS in science, education, or related field and\/or experience working with<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n preschool-aged\u00a0children in an informal education or camp setting. Prior camp and\/or<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n teaching experience of children is preferred. Bonus skills such as art, storytelling, music,<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n and writing are highly desirable, as is enthusiasm for learning about PNW ecology.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n First Aid and CPR certification required by start of work.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n Commitment<\/p>\n<\/td>\n Full time, seasonal: 11 weeks between\u00a0June 15 \u2013 August 28<\/span>, (includes one week of<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n training\/set-up,\u00a010 weeks of camp, and breaking down camp at the end of the summer).<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \n<\/td>\n Hours from 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., Monday through Friday during camp.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n Compensation<\/p>\n<\/td>\n $16.50-$17.25\u00a0per hour DOE<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n Position Summary:<\/p>\n Teach\u00a0age-appropriate\u00a0ecology, cultural, and art education activities to children between the ages of\u00a04-5.\u00a0Field groups range in size from\u00a08-10\u00a0campers. Lead educational lessons, games, songs and\u00a0team-building\u00a0activities with your assigned field groups to foster a fun and respectful camp spirit.<\/p>\n Assist with curriculum and systems development, create activity materials, and help train interns and volunteers. Act as a mentor to volunteer high school students assigned to your group. Assist with camp set- up, breakdown, and cleanup according to weekly theme. Treat materials and natural specimens with respect; assist with inventory and packing as needed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Maintain an inclusive childcare setting by working with all participants to tailor each camp day that results in a fun and engaging camp learning environment.
