(Spokane, WA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"page_1\">\n<p class=\"p1 ft2\"><span class=\"ft1\">Title:\u00a0<\/span>Recycling Campaign Outreach Assistant<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2 ft2\"><span class=\"ft1\">Department:\u00a0<\/span>City of Spokane Solid Waste Department<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2 ft2\"><span class=\"ft1\">Job Type:\u00a0<\/span>Project Employee<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1 ft2\"><span class=\"ft1\">Salary:\u00a0<\/span>$25.37\/hour<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2 ft1\">Anticipated Start Date of Project:\u00a0<span class=\"ft2\">3\/1\/2020<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2 ft1\">Description:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3 ft3\">Spokane is preparing to launch a\u00a0city-wide\u00a0campaign to lower contamination in its curbside recycling program. The city is joining with Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System, the Washington Department of Ecology, the Spokane River Forum and others to\u00a0re-educate\u00a0residents on the importance of recycling correctly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4 ft3\">The campaign will be developed and delivered in a collaborative and consistent way that will ultimately keep recycling affordable for city residents. The project employee, working with the current Solid Waste Education Coordinator, will assist with the development and management of this recycling campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5 ft1\">Essential Functions:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p6 ft6\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft5\">Recommend, plan, and help facilitate the implementation of a contamination reduction outreach program for recycling in residential curbside collection<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft8\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Work with Spokane Recycling Task Force, including WA Department of Ecology (ECY) and the Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System (SCRSWS), Spokane River Forum and others with messaging efforts to keep consistent terminology and language before the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft10\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft9\">Meet with SMaRT Center staff to coordinate city recycling truck audits and how data can be used to identify routes that need targeted education or enforcement measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9 ft10\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft9\">Collaborate with private haulers Waste Management and Sunshine Disposal on\u00a0<\/span>anti-contamination\u00a0language that goes out to their customer base in the city (i.e.\u00a0multi-family\u00a0and commercial accounts).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p10 ft8\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft7\">Identify and contact other agencies and organizations who can help with outreach efforts. (List would include area colleges and universities, private waste businesses like Resource Synergy, and statewide professional organizations like the Washington State Recycling Association, Ecycle Washington and Light Recycle WA).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p11 ft10\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft9\">Assist with development and management of a city cart tagging program during the summer of 2020 (funding provided in part by\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ft11\">The Recycling Partnership<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p12 ft2\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft12\">Coordinate\u00a0<\/span>follow-up\u00a0truck audits to measure impact messaging is having on behavior change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"page_2\">\n<p class=\"p13 ft10\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft9\">Assist Solid Waste Education Coordinator with outreach programs that will include presentations at schools, libraries, Neighborhood Council meetings, and community outreach events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p14 ft1\">Minimum Qualifications:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p15 ft10\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft9\">Education: A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate\u2019s degree with emphasis in marketing, communications, education or similar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p16 ft6\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft5\">Experience: 1 year related experience in: customer service, public contact and education, researching, developing and implementing programs, coordinating with multiple departments, agencies and public groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p17 ft2\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft12\">Possess competent software and analytical skills to extract, analyze, and manage data and provide feedback to customers (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p12 ft2\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft12\">Must have valid driver\u2019s license, satisfactory driving record and pass background check.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p18 ft2\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft12\">Knowledge of:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p19 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Principles and practices of solid waste management<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p20 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Current recycling challenges and opportunities<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p21 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Waste reduction practices such as recycling and composting<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p20 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Educational\/marketing methodology to enact behavioral change<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p18 ft2\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft12\">Abilities:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p19 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Supervise temp. seasonal cart taggers<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p20 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Analyze collected data and produce reports for administration<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p21 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Provide accurate information to public in a professional and courteous manner<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p20 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Communicate effectively verbally and in writing<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p21 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Works cooperatively with others<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p20 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Maintain accurate records and reports<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p21 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Operate a computer workstation<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p12 ft2\"><span class=\"ft4\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft12\">Physical Requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p19 ft2\"><span class=\"ft13\">o<\/span><span class=\"ft14\">Drives City vehicle to job sites.
